Now that I have my settings where I want them to be, I am thoroughly enjoying my new set up. The wife and I watched Patriots Day last night, and some of the views were breathtaking. It is a bit darker, but that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. Granted I've only seen a couple of movies with this set up, but I am very pleased so far.

The Philips BDP7501 is 12 bit only. I incorrectly thought that it sent 8bit when Deep Color was off but it was my receiver that clips to 8bit during 4:2:2 output. It was sending 12 bit. Proof here

Are there evidence of this for the other players than Oppo and Philips? I am starting to think the Sammy player is way better than reviewers of other players have noted..

From what others have said, it appears that only the Samsung and Oppo actually output 10 bit.

The Samsung is a good player for picture quality.

I believe we have the same TV, I would love to hear what your settings are on if you get the chance.

My settings are still stock from the factory. I'm afraid if I touch anything, I'll screw it up. All I did was turn the UHD color on, and made sure the receiver was out putting at 4:4:4. I have no idea what those numbers mean, but I read somewhere in this forum, that it should be set at those numbers. It made a big difference in last night's movie. I don't know if you've seen Patriots Day, but the night scenes showing the city of Boston were the best I have ever seen on any screen, ever. I was very impressed with the overall picture last night. I'll take a look and see what the other settings are at, but I haven't touched them.

Oh yeah, I left the HDR+ setting off. I think I had that on for the first couple of movies that I watched.

Stock from the factory as in "standard" mode? Or did you switch to "movie" mode and then leave it alone? Just wondering.

Glad you like the picture, I wish you further success with it. I'm a picky videophile so not everyone is gonna share my concerns or priorities.

I leave it at standard picture mode. I've tried the other settings, but I didn't care for the way the picture looked. I do know that I'm not done with the settings. As I watch more movies, I'm sure I'll be tweaking it here and there. Thanks Velvet, I appreciate the support.

Standard mode is the most accurate for the K8500 by measurements. Even user mode at all 0's is less accurate.

I meant on the TV, not the player, but maybe didn't make that clear. "Standard" on the TV uses a cooler color temp and some sharpening/processing, so I highly suggest "movie" mode. The movie mode on the KU series is very accurate, according to reviews and calibrators.

I don't know if it's my HDMI cable or the player, but my player often displays "no signal." Sometimes it reads right aways once i insert the disc, but most of the times it doesn't. What could be the problem? I tried to use different HDMI cables but it's still the same.

Is the player's Deep Color setting turned off? It must be left off. It is on by default.

I can't find the post, but someone said they replaced their remote with an Insignia remote. I just bought one, but can't figure out how to get it to control my player and not my tv.

I bought a Oneforall remotes some months ago and couldn't be happier. In addition to that I can also control my T.V. with it so one less remote on the table getting dust and one more to save in a tray.

I've had my player for two weeks now, and I'm very happy with it. I watched Battleship last night, and it looked very, very good. I don't have a lot of 4K titles yet, but I'm slowly adding them to my collection. I did pick up Pacific Rim recently that I'll probably watch over the weekend. Of the few titles that I have watched, I think Patriots Day, and Battleship are the best looking one's that I've seen. I look forward to seeing many more in the future. So far, the budget TV, and the budget player are working fine together.
