I got that msg when I loaded ET, I've had it before too, or cannot play this disc. Wiping disc better or reloading it has fixed it. Yeah I think it's just a random error msg but all the discs I've bought have played on the player. I don't have HDR and sometimes I get a msg saying something about HDR but I just hit OK and move on.

I wouldn't worry check the info screen thru TV and confirm your getting right signal.

Wondering if one of the updates is the reason why I don't get the message "you are watching an HDR disc" anymore?
They removed that message from the KS8000 in an update not long ago. I personally want it back, but that's the scoop.

I'm glad it's gone. Pointless to see it and on occasion it covered info I wanted to see and I had to wait for it to go away.

The OS is different too as is the remote which is an improvement over the shitty one that came with the K8500. This one is longer, uses regular AA batteries instead of lithium and easier to use and has an option for numeric input. Still wish it illuminated but it is what it is. Overall I am MUCH happier with the M8500. PQ is better too, I re-watched 1492 yesterday and it looked like crap on the K8500 and there was a substantially better picture on the M8500. Seriously, the difference is night and day between the M8500 and the K8500. My advice to anyone with the K8500 is to take it back and get the M8500.
Sorry for the late reply, as you can tell I don't come on here very often. I honestly don't buy movies anymore and never watch them anymore, so I ended up smashing my Sammy 8500 with a sledge hammer. Biggest piece of trash ever. I bought it used last December and have turned it on maybe 4 times and maybe watched a total of 3 movies on it. Every single time I've done this, I've had to waste 2 hours of my time just to get the sound working. Total piece of garbage. I will never buy another Sammy player again. Fisher price quality.

Nice to see the opinions of people who don't watch movies on a move fan site.

Wont buy another Samsung for the simple fact that they removed 3d playback.

I have recently purchased a Pioneer VSX-1131 receiver which is both atmos and DTS:X capable. I also have the K8500 UHD player. When i placed my copy of Resident Evil Final Chapter UHD in the player, the audio track is only stating TrueHD but no Atmos track. is this normal or is there some sort of issue. I dont have atmos speakers setup yet so thought that might be an issue. But at the very least i would expect the Samsung player to be at least outputting the Atmos track and the receiver just outputting the TrueHD track. Am i correct?

Edit : Seems the amp has to be setup for Atmos for it to even recognise the Atmos track. Soon as i enabled the 5.1.2 atmos speaker setup, i could see the Atmos track being input. all good.

The answer is no. Samsung don't support Dolby Vision and created HDR 10+ to compete against it so I doubt they have any plans to add it to their products in the future.

I own some Samsung products and would like to the to support Dolby Vision but at the moment in time its not going to happen.

I took a sledge to my OPPO83 as it was nothing but trouble. I just bought a 8500 for cheap and should have it soon. I am just up grading everything to 4k. Just got a Sony OLED.

The Oppo 203 is working great for me. It seems to be a much better player. You would like Dolby Vision content if your new TV has DV support.

It sounds like you should use PCM. Bitstream has to be decoded, which you don't have a receiver to do.

I hope this helps!

What do you think that how long will they update this player and are they going to do some major updates? Like adding 4:2:2 option perhaps? Or auto resolution that it would not upscale normal bluray if resolution is set to auto...

In order to update, you will have to buy a different player altogether. This one had its day.
