I understand your situation Lee. Everyone needs to weigh their particular risk. But keep in mind they probably won't be opening any theaters unless they felt it was a risk worth taking for many. Cases will be down, so the odds of transmission will be less as well. But of course those in high risk should stay away. And like you say, they're only gonna show catalogs anyway.

I'm in for $5 Tuesday prices for the foreseeable future at the theatre.

Just test those in high risk groups...initially.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/23/healt...rnd/index.html

"The amount of SARS-CoV-2 also diminished rather quickly over time, compared to say, a norovirus or "cruise-ship" intestinal virus, said Williams, who is chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh."

"In the study the virus was down "a hundred fold on cardboard in eight hours," Williams said. "That means 99.9% of the virus was gone by eight hours, and the same is true on stainless steel and plastic.""

This is something you don't hear much about. The virus can theoretically survive for up to 24 hours on cardboard, for example, but it diminishes greatly by the hour. That's important to remember. It's highly unlikely to catch this virus through opening of boxes or handling groceries.

I would imagine the high risk groups will be the ones told they still can't mingle during "phase 1".

When I went into the hospital 4 years ago with the flu, it damn near almost killed me. That October I got my first ever flu shot and since then I get one every October. That flu shot gives me the confidence to go out in public and "live a normal life."

I figure I have at best 10 years left to live. I really want to make the best of them. If it means giving up some of the things I normally did for a year or two to make sure I do get those 10 years, no skin off my nose. The one thing old age has truly taught me is patience.

Yes, the US. It's no worse in my small town than anywhere else. Most people are okay in the stores I've been in and there haven't been any incidents that I've heard of. But people are people. Sometimes people don't think and get in your way unintentionally.

I used to wander around my local Savers thrift store for a good hour now and then A) just to get out and be anywhere but in my apartment and B) to see what kind of interesting stuff they had for the week, even if I had no plans for buying anything. Ditto for the mall in my area. Sometimes we go just to walk around and look at stuff and be out, with no particular purpose.

People are tired of being cooped up.

I guess due to my age I have had much different experiences, medically, growing up than most of you. I remember everyone getting a Polio shot, shots for measles, mumps and chicken pox. It was like a regular thing. Go to school, line up in the hallway and get a shot.

Do they still do fire drills? Loud bell rings and everyone leave the school in an orderly fashion. Waits outside for 15 minutes than marches back into school.

Sure . . . until someone sneezes or coughs.

Here are the adorable, color-coded phases of re-opening for The Keystone State:

[Show spoiler]

Quote:
"We will not just be flipping a switch and going from closed to open," Wolf said. "Ultimately the virus is going to set the timeline, not us."

Health department metrics and a modeling tool developed by Carnegie Mellon University will be used to determine whether a county or region should move to one of three phases: red, yellow or green.

The first phase toward reopening would be yellow, in which some of the restrictions would be eased.

"Specifically we’re modeling the north central and northwest parts of Pennsylvania based on the criteria and the model with the goal of moving them to the yellow phase on May 8," Wolf said.

I remember mass vaccinations also, surprised it's not as mandatory today.

Isn't that the last group you should be checking antibodies for? They're the least likely to have any, and if they had the virus they'd almost certainly know. It's the younger, lowest risk groups that need to be tested most.

I know it's the same article I linked to above, but from the article:

"Washing hands is key"

"If you want to focus on something that makes a key difference every time, experts say, it's much more important to become a fanatic about properly washing or sanitizing your hands after any potential encounter with coronavirus."

I still think this is the most important thing people can do. If everyone A) wore at least a surgical mask or better and B) wore it right, I would say that's helping. But the materials used for home-made masks or masks bought from online shops and the way people are wearing them, it's more show than anything else.

You got it! That way no one falls "through the cracks." It only takes one you know.

It's a bad idea to go out right now, no question about it. I'm just saying, people will go out. Look at the beaches in Florida that opened. As soon as stores open up, many young people will flock to them to get out, assuming it's safe or they wouldn't be opening. Lots of younger people still aren't concerned about this, and many idiots still think it's no big deal, or subscribe to some crackpot conspiracy theory.

So what will have changed between your "now" and two weeks from "now?"

That's illogical and also not really possible currently. So we should just stop all testing then?
