I admit, I never really played through all of the disc throughout the years until now only because in the past it was readily available on streaming sources.

When you try to play the last disc, even the menu will appear pixelated, stopping and starting slowly. And once you choose to play the first episode on it, the player will make noises, stutter, then a blank screen ensues. It just cannot play that first episode nor the second without any issues.

And just to be clear, the bottom of the disc is completely pristine without even a smudge of dirt or defects. And I looked at it with very bright lights inspecting the surface like I was in a lab or something.
No problem here either. I just checked every disc from both seasons and they all work without a glitch.

I wonder if HBO will ever revisit again for a 4K release with Atmos?

I thought I would pay my respects to the late Ray Stevenson here. He was legendary as Titus Pullo and it's still his best role in my opinion. Rest in peace, sir!

I was really saddened to learn the news of his passing today. I also felt that Rome was his best role.
RIP Ray Stevenson

Would be great if they did. I would rebuy the series on 4K in a heartbeat.

It’s too bad it didn’t get a few more seasons as originally intended. That’s why season 2 feels so rushed as they crammed so much into it. I’m long overdue for a re-watch as well.

Yeah. Much of the second season crammed elements of what the creators planned for the third and fourth seasons. I still ponder what would've happened if the series had ran its originally envisioned five season arc but the high production costs lead to only two seasons...

Pretty sure it was the costliest show at the time. It definitely would’ve been neat to see how it was handled with the 5 seasons.

I wonder if HBO axed this show, because they were on the brink of producing Game of Thrones, a few years later? Rome was very expensive, but GOT was I imagine several times more expensive, to develop and produce.

Rome was cancelled in 2007, GOT began to be developed that same year.

It was cut cause it costed to mush to make and they didn’t like the return they was getting same with Deadwood.

A fantastic series, & I enjoy season two as much as season one (there's certainly tons going on), the odd thing is the nudity, S1 is wall to wall naked bodies, whereas S2 there's almost none (or none at all, I can't remember). I love the way they play around with history, like maybe Cleopatra's son wasn't the offspring of Julius Caesar, but of just a common soldier.
