Hi Kristin:

This is actually the French deluxe set (preliminary info indicates no English subs). As you could see in the main thread however, post #1, the same film gets a UK release: November 26th.

It is not on Amazon-UK yet but it will be there shortly. You could order directly form here if you wish (I assume you are in the US):

Ah, released under a different title.
Thanks for the information.

I am not fluent, but I know enough French, German, Spanish, Russian, Serbian, Romani, Italian and Polish to understand most European films. Oh yes, a little Swedish, too. Subtitles only help when I'm stuck. But something is always lost in the translation, and subtitles are usually abbreviated translations at best. Often a lot of the depth is lost. It's not good to rely on subtitles, IMO.

But region coding is a different thing. It's a crime !

Does anybody know anything about The Seventh Seal's specs yet?
Given that we're about a month from release I figured they might crop up.

Actually, since Sony will probably be doing most of the work on these, I'd imagine they'll be region free like Sony's other catalog titles, but you never know.

Also arriving in Spain (English friendly)...

review:

Quote:

The Nautical Chart

La Carta Esférica (Spain)

By JONATHAN HOLLAND
A Universal release of an Enrique Cerézo, Origen, New Atlantis production with the participation of TVE. (International sales: TVE, Madrid.) Produced by Antonio Cardenal. Executive producer, Iñigo Marco. Directed, written by Imanol Uribe, based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

With: Carmelo Gómez, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Enrico Lo Verso, Javier García Gallego, Gonzalo Cunill, Lucina Gil, Carlos Kaniowsky.

A rudderless mystery that aims to reinvent Boys Own treasure-hunt yarns for modern tastes, "The Nautical Chart's" leaking plotline struggles to keep the pic afloat. Despite go-for-it perfs from reliable Spanish vets Carmelo Gómez and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón and top production values -- particularly Javier Aguirresarobe's lavish lensing -- pic is plodding fare that moves predictably from set piece to set piece but lacks dramatic undertow. Like last year's biggest Spanish hit "Alatriste," "Chart" is based on work by popular writer Arturo Perez-Reverte and home B.O. has accordingly been fine. But, pic looks unlikely to dock at many offshore harbors.

Tanger Soto (Sánchez-Gijón) outbids Italian crook Nino Palermo (Enrico Lo Verso) and Argentinean Kiskoros (Gonzalo Cunill) for a valuable 18th century maritime atlas at a Barcelona auction. Afterward, unemployed sailor Coy (Gómez) steps in when he sees Palermo threatening Tanger, and ends up following Tanger to the Madrid naval museum where she works.

When Coy spots an error on the atlas map, Tanger reveals she bought the document because she believes it might lead her to a brigantine that sunk off Spain's southern coast.

Tanger offers Coy a job helping her locate the ship, and Coy agrees, having fallen for Tanger hook, line and sinker. The duo takes off with Palermo and Kiskoros trailing them.

With the aid of an old buddy of Coy's (Javier García Gallego), they search for the ship, which Palermo tells Coy contains a treasure of emeralds.

Another revelation, well into pic's second half, renders the previous 30 minutes implausible: Someone in Tanger's position would never have made the kind of error that the plot depends upon at this point.

Although the lead thesps inject life into the basically cardboard roles, Sánchez-Gijón lacks the air of danger that would have made her femme fatale convincing.

Lensing takes good advantage of the striking coastline and seascapes of southern Spain and includes swooping aerial shots as well as some impressive underwater footage. Much time is dedicated to an entirely superfluous voiceover from Coy.

The info of DVDFR states it has English subs (just like the DVD). It will hit streets in two days. I would wait until the first reviews appear.

Some French shops: FNAC.fr, Amazon.fr, and alapage.com. It should be around € 50,= excl. shipping. A regular version will be available (2 disc) for € 29,99.

This could be good news however. This will be released by TF1, which released Casino 3-disc S.E. with DTS (should call it a 2-disc however) on DVD. So... BRING IT ON TF1!!!!!!
