Foreign Blu-rays? - Blu-ray Forum

okay. so...help me out here...and others unaware of this domestic dilemma. are there movies that are only available on HD-DVD here in the US of A but on Blu-Ray in other countries? i read in one of the threads here a while ago that Children of Men (an HD DVD exclusive) might be coming out in Korea on Blu? though theres no official word on it yet so its rumored...but lets say it happened. so hypothetically, i could purchase this title and play it on my PS3?? and this would be because of different distribution rights varying per country of release??

Yes some HD DVD exclusives may be released in Blu-ray in other countries depending on which company holds the rights there. If the country they're released in is in the same Region as you are, you can play it. (There's only 3 Blu-ray regions, A, B, and C). Also, several Blu-rays (but not all) are released multi-region. Check the region encoding thread and other threads for more info.

If Children of Men comes out in Korea, I'll let you guys know how to get it.

Generally, you can import korean titles from www.playasia.com for acceptable prices.

I've bought things and sent them into korea from them. Korea and Japan are the same Blu-ray region as the USA.
