I am ordering my player from Amazon tomorrow and it says I should have it this week if I can get the order in in time. Then I will order the disk from Sony.

They do require the serial number of unit. Headsup

Hey everyone. Long time lurker but first time poster.

I have a quick question. With all these deals going on, I'm planning on buying a Blu-Ray player after Christmas. The thing is... I don't know which one. I was looking at the Samsung BD-P1400, Sony BDP-S300, or Playstation 3. I'm heavily leaning towards the BDP-S300 due to the deal going on at Amazon. The only thing steering me away from a PS3 is due to audio. I don't have a HDMI receiver plus it can't do uncompressed audio?? Any insights?!! Thanks a lot!

While I am no good at the audio insites, chew on these facts.
Nothing beats the PS3 in load time and playback. But, does it become a chore to learn to use a PS3 controller for family just to play a movie? If there are gamers in the house, then that is a no brainer.

I personally own the S300 and it has been a solid performer, albeit sometimes lacking in load speeds. Nothing is simpler. Sony seems to keep up on the firmware updates to play all the latest movies, while some of the other companies sometimes take a few weeks to catch up.

Don't be overly concerned with the audio. New firmware will expand the S300. Maybe not to the degree you desire, but the alternatives are not shabby.

I bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered the Sony BDP-S300 with the Spider-man 3 and POTC3 free deal. The price went up $10 overnight for the player but it's still an amazing deal and I am very excited. The free Super Saver Shipping will bring it here on Monday the 24th hopefully as it says. I am very excited

It was $305.39 out the door.

Sony has v3.70 up on it's site although it's not yet advertised.

Hmmm... I'll have to give 3.70 a try when it's official. I ran into my first BD movie that won't play on 3.30. Underdog seems to hang at the menu screen.

That's probably what it takes care of then. Since they usually come out with an update right when new movies come out. Maybe an update for those folks having issues with the new Disney movies.

I just got off the phone with Sony and they informed me that they do not have any new firmware upgrades for any of the players at this time, so please do not install this new firmware upgrade until Sony posts one.
