AFAIK version 5.0 was never released on the Tech Support site for this player. Why don't you just download 5.2 from the link I posted above? If it is because you have a MAC, then I suppose you should contact them agaiun and request 5.2.

Just got 5.20 in the mail today,(Well it's Sunday, it was in my mailbox, just didn't check it till today) the last disc was 5.0 (I had 4.90 when this first disc arrived)
As far why I don't download it myself? I prefer to get a "Factory disc" the first time I tried to download an update, I had to burn it to a disc as an image, but didn't have software to do that, so I used the "Freeware" software someone posted, and as we all know NOTHING is free on the internet, so I feel more comfortable just waiting for the Sony disc to come in the mail.

Does anyone know if "Maximum Movie Mode" is something that will be firmware upgradable? I was looking forward to watching the Terminator Salvation one but S300 can't do it.

You have a profile 1.0 for this reason you can't enjoy Maximum movie mode.YOU are able only to watch movies on this tank player.

PS:This player has been called a TANK Player.

Just for historic reasons, I would like to point out I thusly named this player "The Tank".

Why?

* It's big, but beautiful
* It's slow, but does the job.
* It's upgradable - to an extent.
* It's dependable. So far, firmware fixes all playing issues.

Other acceptable nick names, Tank-S300, S300 Tank, Tank300. But nothing with STank300...

My review is still #1 on Amazon. Check it out for the "Load Time Performance Table"

Yes this is right all you can get is multi-channel audio 5.1 or 7.1 depending on the movie playing back.Because the player is decoding and not the receiver

I just ordered 5.2 upgrading from 4.30

Will I notice anything significant other than load times?

It depends on the movie, and how much difference the upgrade gives. You might not notice 10 seconds, but you would notice 30 seconds.

I believe "The Tank" is maxed out, and new firmware are simply tweaks and patches. I've had my player since firmware version 2.0! It always felt like getting a new player everytime I updated the firmware and saw the performance boost.

I am still very happy with my S300 aka "The Tank"
It gives me all I want from my Blu-Ray movies.

The picture is superb and the sound is also great. I listen to 5.1 sound as my receiver doesn't give me more (and I only have 5 speakers ;-) )
It manages all the discs I give it. Sure, sometimes it takes some time. Especially with real heavy Java-menus.
But boy, do I love the PQ and AQ this machine gives to me.

I will only buy a new player if this one brakes down. And as it is called "The Tank" that may hopefully be a few years away.

S300 ROCKS

So I was thinking of buying a new Blu-ray Player. The one I have S300 works great awesome PQ and AQ but I was wondering is there a reason to buy the new Blu-ray players on the market besides the faster loading times.

Or is the PQ and AQ the same with new players.

I hear the PS3 is the best for Audio and Video because they update firmwares.

USA 3D upgrade

What are the chances that future SW up grades will allow 3D BluRay movies?

Angry BDP-301, fw 5.30 and Planet 51

Updated to 5.30 and still cannot play Planet 51. The BDP-301 is a horrible and slow player. Time to end my suffering and get a new player.

I dumped the player and am trying the bdp-s470 only because its priced ok with a decent online selection and i don't have to reprogram my remote codes. App memory might be a problem with the s470 as i experenced a message regarding that while exploring the apps. The s301 may have been a problem with a dirty disk not the unit so someone else will have to deal.

Not too familiar with how 3D BD players work, but my guess is that few to NONE of any existing player will handle that kind of image processing.
