300 dollar sensor, we had it towed to the dealer, walked up to the parts place and my mom handed one of the techs there a piece of paper and said take care of this as well, the sheet of paper was the recall notice.

He looked at my mom weird, and in a low voice oh that one.. the tow guy was in there, and I said yep the recall on it spontaneously combustion...

The tow truck driver turned into a white sheet his eyes got big.. and the tech guy said yeah that one..

The tow truck driver said well I guess that is something you would want taken care of.

I don't think recalling all the printed copies of the game, and printing new ones, is "cheap" publicity.

Unless the copies that people have been able to purchase don't actually have the song in them all along, and it was just a lie from the start.

Yes it was just one huge government conspiracy to deny running water to the poor.

Famitsu on LBP:

10
10
9
9

Total : 38/40 (9.5/10)

What are all websites focusing on?
It's -1- point less than GTA IV.
http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/pos...BigPlanet.html

Oh My God guys - This means it's an outstanding game that 1 guy liked a mere 1 pt less than GTA IV out of 4... and that is all

Very good sign for LBP in Japan though

After re-reviewing all of the information on this whole debacle I've come to a new conclusion:

Sony did not do this for political correctness or for fear of retaliation or any of that ridiculousness.

Sony did this for the same reason most all businesses do things:

Money.

You have to put this into context. Muslims represent the world's largest religion and by no small amount either... The margin is BIG. That is a VERY significant portion of possible sales. Granted, many folks would buy the game regardless of their beliefs in the matter (even the songwriter is a Muslim); however, a significant portion may not (as the Professor stated in his response people can simply choose not to buy it if it offends them).

The Professor's commentary was well written but he had that one remark about people choosing not to buy the product if they didn't like it... This is where he went astray. This isn't a public group voicing an opinion and using free speech to get that message out or to be critical of a religion or whatever. This is a global corporation whose sole purpose in the world is to make money for it's shareholders. Period. The professor inadvertently hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one statement...

Sony did this simply because they want to make _as much money as possible by not having certain individuals simply not buy a game they otherwise would_.

Now, I don't have the demographics here of the entire Muslim faith nor how many would be 'devoted' enough to care about this; however, I'm pretty sure Sony may have something that could be referenced to a degree (or at least a really good educated guess). The money counters probably did some quick math and said ''Yep, let's fix it. We'll make more money if the 'devoted' buy it also."

So, yes, on a moral, ethical and every other non-business reason I disagree with what Sony has done; however, I simply do not have the information to fully judge it as a business decision without knowing how many sales would have been lost to the affected group had they not taken this action. Obviously, they felt it was significant enough to warrant a pricey recall. Curious.

On another note, if you live in SL, UT, you could get a copy of LBP anytime you want this week. A TON of smaller stores have refused to ship it back (noting the freight costs, etc., example an earlier poster made) and are selling it 'as is' basically. I'm not going to put the names of the stores 'just in case' there is an issue with Sony; however, you can get LBP _very easily_ here right now.

I agree, but I also think GTA4 should have got something like a 33/40

I have actually spoken to Sony about why they delayed its release. It is more to do with safety and PR.

1. They were worried about the safety of SCE London staff, my friend seemed worried and said there was a general, "we would prefer not to get blown up" sentiment there.

2. The Faux News effect, like some people mentioned SCE were also worried about shipping a game with would could be perceived as "terrorist connotations", right wing media would have a field day with it.

3. It's not actually that expensive and once the patch is out WW I fully expect the recalled version to filter through into western territories unnoticed.

Well, I think sony did this for 2 reasons. As stated, they didnt want to offend muslims. But more importantly, with all the islama-phobia in the US (and europe) they didnt want people complaining that a game has passages from the quran. Lets face it, regardless of number of muslims worldwide, its far more important to keep sales in NA/Europe up.

Which is also why Sony did nothing about the R1/Manchester thing. THey knew it was a bluff. Honestly, the vast majority of christians couldnt care less. I bet the only people who were pissed off were those who are associated with that church and were pissed they didnt get royalties. THe fact is its a game that took place in Manchester, so you'd think they'd show off a major landmark of the city. And it was human survivors trying to seek shelter in a church from an evil soul-less threat......thats not even the slightest bit blasphemous or offensive. It was a total PR stunt by the administrators of that church. Therefore, they knew it wouldnt affect sales.

I remember being the only one on day1 that said #2 was a possibility. And I still say #1 was an afterthought to #2. A patch would have taken care of it for muslims, but not the islamaphobic western world.

I think #1 isn't a real reason used. I would suggest it is simply an 'off the cuff' remark your friend(s) may have made based on their own stereotypes of Muslims more than an actual decision influencer.

I can subscribe to #2 to a degree; however, the western media would have probably never have noticed if Sony hadn't taken this step and even if they did it would be very small, especially after first (and perhaps second) week sales are already sold through.

I am in agreement on #3. I suspect many of the discs won't even be altered but the statement of 'holding it back' was still made.

I assume the patch is still going to come out though... I mean a few stray copies did get out, and if they are serious about stopping this, they will have a patch ready to fix it on those copies.
Any word on that?

Well the song is still in it, unless they made an edit to the song...
I suppose we'll see about any further updates as well as any in US.

Thanks.

Sometimes I wonder if Sony always knew about the lyrics, put the song in on purpose, only to at the last moment pull the game off the shelves just for the free publicity. The money they are spending on this recall could not buy them the level of advertisement they are getting. Plus it gives the company a good rep; this move says "see how far out of the way we go to make sure all our customers are happy?"
