So to compensate I'd just throw in numerous glass platforms you need to leap across or else you fall into a firepit or something!
The more challenging the better in my book!

Well, I think if it was easier to get back up the steps if you slip off the first glass platform, that may help a bit. When you're trying to race the first instinct is to just pop up the stairs after the missed jump - when you have to take a running jump before each step it just adds insult to injury so to speak.

I would definitely just try that and see what others here think before adjusting the glass. Adjust the glass too much and it could end up too easy.

Another option may be to give a piece of fixed sponge above the first glass platform that people can use to at least stop their momentum if they are out of control.

Ooooo, I think I see what you are saying! Its the fact that jumping up the steps, people are gaining too much momentum and aren't able to quickly go to the left as they slide off the platform! I'm not 100% sure if I want to change that fact. Although I could add a sponge so only the first sackboy would get the cusioned impact which would disappear after its used once.

The more I think about it, the less inclination it is for me to continue to play Bioshock and pick up my LBP controller again.

Well two different things -
1 - the steps up themselves don't flow smoothly becuase of the height - that isn't a horible thing on it's own, but when you slide off the first platform or jump short 3 or 4 times, the steps quickly become more of a hassle.

2 - the jumping on/off a glass platform can be really challenging - in fact jumping on glass just really messes with your momentum in general. If you're thinking that everyone is doing the hop on and off the platform in one motion, try hoping up once you hit the first glass platform and what that does to your sackboy.

If that's intended, leave it as is. If that is a little more challenging than intended, a small sponge rod or block fixed in one spot in the air above the first platform (maybe closer to the right side of it) would let a player that was jumping up and down to grab it and then drop straight down. It would let them start from the platform at rest. it would still be hard, but it would help players understand how glass affects their running and jumping.

I like your idea at the end with introducing glass surfaces early on the level just in case they don't know how to fully manipulate them to their full advantage.

Wow, talking about levels with other people really does help work the creative juices!

I don't mind challenging - but as mentioned before - there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating. I also don't like it when someone makes things very difficult and has checkpoint way too far apart. I got through a million jumps on tiny, tiny platforms that I kept falling off of and having to start all over again. I finally got to the top - and no checkpoint. I got killed later and had to start from the bottom again. There was no way I was going to go through all that again (jumping from one tiny ledge to another with things knocking me off).

I don't mind challenging, but space out the challenges.

To take Marine Mike's Level (which I haven't played) - it sounds like it would be more frustrating than challenging to have to run and jump, instead of just jump. Running to jump isn't a challenge, but can get frustrating if it's put in too often for no other reason than to make be run and jump.

I'm trying to find the fine line myself in my first created level. I have a few challenging areas, but they are short and don't require endless perfection to get through. I actually feel I might be making it too easy. We'll see.

There aren't an endless number of boss machines. Depending on how quick you figure out how to beat them, it's one of the quicker levels overall
Ok, thanks. I haven't tried to finish it. I started, beat a couple of bosses, then looked at the time and figured if this is the end level, it might be fairly long and to try it another time.

I keep getting sucked into to my level I'm creating. It's not that great to be honest - but it's mine.

I know, I have some ideas that are cool (in my head anyway ), but it's like having a story for a movie - you don't want to tell it so no else uses it first!

You can use the same set and actors from a film, but if you direct it in a different way and change the script, you can make it into a different if not better movie by changing things.

EDIT: Check out my level and see what I do with Camera angles and music and you will see what I mean.

I'll definitely check out your levels when I get home.

I'm having a lot of fun setting up camera angles and putting in different music cues as well. I hope they release more.

It's amazing - as much as they give us for tools - I hunger for even more!

How do you make wheels that work?

I have tried for 2 hours now and everything I made just sits there "stuck" to the ground. I've tried rotating, standard, etc.

I even built stuff in the air to avoid attaching it to the ground, but nothing is working. When I attach rockets to check, it just moves the whole vehicle as 1 piece.

I went back to basics and that didn't work.

1. Make cardboard square in air on 1 plane.

2. Make 2 rubber circles in air on the next forward plane.

3. Attach bolt to rubber circles in air.

4. Attach rubber circles w/bolt to cardboard box in air and hold down button to glue them on.

Drop vehicle and nothing. Every time it sits there like a rock when I play.

Ideas?

Oh.

So you attach the circles first then the bolt?

I thought the bolt on the circles would hit the square when I attached them.

Okay, going to try that one. I hate this game.

Okay, that wasn't the issue, but I figured out the problem.

I was gluing the wheels to the base. So obviously it couldn't move.

Well, there went some hours and stress and coffee and . . .

Now I can resume making my little amateur taxi vehicle.

I'm playing the game first too aside from trying to learn the basic create tools. Lots of user levels have giveaway collectibles, which I like.

The main problem I had was that I'd jump up the left side of the steps, and slide across the top and fall down to the right. I did that repeatedly. And it's a difficult jump back up onto the top from the right. I wasn't even falling all the way down... just down the first step. But from there I'd need to jump 4 or 5 times every time before I got back on the top, because that step wasn't very wide so it was difficult to get up the momentum. If that first right step was a different material, or slightly higher, or even if the top of the platform was just a little bit wider, it wouldn't have been migraine-level frustrating. The controls in the game are floaty already, so including a glass platform that requires a great deal of precision to navigate isn't an enjoyable choice.

Okay, I see what you are saying. When I edit the level to expand it more, I'll try not to make 1 particular place too difficult, but try to spread it out.
