LBP can completely rape the user base with DLC$$$ like no other game in history.

Rockband and GH were just drops in the bucket compared to what LBP can do.

but he's right - I would easily drop 5-10 per theme park if they were to make Disney DLC packs for The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Movie Studio, and Animal Kingdom that had levels that were based off all the rides.

I'd also pay for a bunch of simpsons based content at the drop of the hat too.

It was funny, after mentioning Disney it occured to me that LBP is right up their alley and something Walt would have aboslutely loved - it's all about creation and whimsy, not destruction.

I hate to break it to everyone here, but LBP was designed FOR DLC profits. Thus, you'll be seeing a ton of it.

I don't think that's true. I find it hard to believe a group of people sat around a table and said "Ok, our next project is a vehicle to bring in tons of DLC. Let's think of a game."

I'm sure it developed as a regular concept, and only later (whether it was 2 months later, or 2 seconds later) that they realized the DLC potential.

Yea for some reason the levels in this game are so replayable. I can play them multiple times in a row and not get bored whatsoever. I spent over two hours on one level one time with a friend trying to beat it without dying on multiplayer (even though it's easier in single player). And it didn't get old at all. But I still try to make most out of each level at a time to collect as much as I can for creation.

dlc is a good thing. Well for this game. For extra missions and stuff in other games, hell no. But this is a user based online community. We'll need new tools(such as import music/pictures tools plz) to keep the game going. They pay for the servers while we pay $0 for it. No xboxlive bs fee. Since we're paying $0 for all this free stuff, we basically get the option to donate money (for cool clothes etc.) ;D

Not to mention how funny it can get. My little brother, my sister, my cousin, and I play old levels a lot because it's frustrating to pass the higher levels as a team. And each time, we always get a big laugh, because we are always up to antics, like tricking each other to die or being greedy with the point bubbles.

Anyway, I had realized that if MM released additional levels later (which I hope), they would have no need for a sequel. The DLC potentials just eliminate that. Too bad for us (well, our wallets) that they are working on a sequel. Game packs from big companies like Disney would be awesome. Imagine Mickey Mouse as the Creator Curator with the aid of his Imagineers.

i understand your point, but i still dont like it. the game is great and worth the $60, but still $60 a game. Ill wait to see what the DLC and costs are before i complain about them though..... i dont know if you can compare xbox to ps3 for online, when the ps3 costs at the min. $400 and the xbox costs $200 now.....

Ya, but you can still play this game forever without paying for a single download. If it had a subscription cost to play online lvls then that would suck. And xbox doesn't play bluray so unless you're not watching blurays the ps3 should cost more than the xbox.

That is a very good point... and i do agree. this game you can play for a very long time, but at some point, your going to want new tools, materials, objects, stickers, costumes and levels. so i guess i agree with you, as long as they dont rape us on it. It should be done as a package instead of individual stuff. like "x shirt - buy for $0.99" Drives me nutz...

Ya I agree,

It'd be nice if anything that actually changed the game such as tools and different materials were free, and if only the cosmetic stuff would cost money.

Well look at it another way - that's the beauty of DLC. Buy what you want, skip what you dont.

Now while I love LBP comparing to WoW probably isn't fair - in terms of available gameplay hours - but everyone playing WoW pays $15 a month, regardless of if they use the content or not.

With DLC, you can buy the things you want and skip the things you don't.

Personally I hope that mechanic works for Sony on DCU Online. If DCUO really captures the DCU, is a ton of fun, and provides as much fun and stuff to do as City of Heroes or WoW, I wouldn't mind paying 15 a month - but it's even better for us if all the stuff provided as part of that 15 were provided a la carte. As long as they don't try to get more from us a la carte that would be expected from a MMO fee.

Well, as a businessman, I can tell you that's exactly what the "business" was thinking.

Companies are in business to make money. There's not one big game maker who is making games just for the fun of it.

And if you don't want to believe someone with about two decades of business experience, I'd simply direct your attention to the first taste of DLC ($3-$4 for a "rare" t-shirt, rumors of more pay-for-DLC content, etc).

When you build a business or a game or a marketing campaign or whatever, you first sit down and formulate a plan. You look at all the potential, you do a SWOT, etc. You look at everything and you proceed based on your information.

Anyway, this is ending up being too technical for a gamers forum.

In a nutshell, expect lots of DLC for $$$ content out of LBP.

BTW, I don't have a problem with DLC, I love it. I don't have to buy it. I'd rather have a game with thousands of DLC items than a game with nothing.

I'm not saying they don't want to make money. As someone with two degrees from one of the top business schools in the country (and I'll eventually get the experience you have, after I get older) I understand how business works.

The point is, and remains, that I don't think Mm sat down and thought about how they wanted to make money, and came up with the idea of making a medium for selling DLC.

You can't try to counter my argument by saying "look at the DLC as evidence". I never put forth the argument that they don't care about money, only that a DLC vending machine was most likely not the original idea that spawned into LBP.

Also, you seem to be contradicting yourself here: "Companies are in business to make money. There's not one big game maker who is making games just for the fun of it."

So are there small companies that do make games just for the fun of it? Or are small companies not really companies? MediaMolecule has 25 employees...is that a big game maker?

When the system turned on though, it said an update was available. I've done previous updates for jamclaur and its never been an issue. But now after todays update, nothing seems to be working?

I haven't turned the system off or anything, but the controller seems to be frozen? I can't get anything to work.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!
I don't mean to be silly, but is it possible that the controller sat idle so long that it went to sleep? We probably need a little more specific detail - what was the last screen the said before it froze up, etc...
