I think you're missing the major "game changer" that makes LBP unique - Creativety, mainly, your own.

Your right, it's a platformer - but there is not another platformer out there that allows you to create your own platformer from scratch in a ba-zillion different ways. It will still be a platformer in the end, but every FPS is practically the same as well - the difference is environment. With LBP, the environment will always be changing.

The real brilliance here was allowing people to share/play each others levels online. I probably wouldn't spend much time making a level if it was just for me.

So, you're correct, if you don't like single and multiplayer platformers, don't like creativety and the idea that the game you bought may never run out of new levels to try - then yes, this may not be the game for you.

FYI, this post wasn't meant to sound condescending - I just reread it, and it may sound like that, but that's not my intention. Just trying to give a viewpoint on why this game might have the hype/mass appeal that you don't see.

Sorry, no one played Mario for the "story". Basically, it was about getting to the next level and making it through all the side scrolling fun so you could see what the next level held in store for you.

However, it does make me think that LBP is missing one thing (although, this is only the beta and we haven't seen everything that is offered yet), but it would be cool if we have little weapons or something for "invincibility" etc.

Again, it's hard to discuss an issue with a game, without getting the full version.

Yeah its definitely hard to gauge what else is in store for us. Just wondering if there are any hardcore LBP fanboys out there that know more about it than me. I just started looking into this game a couple days ago.

Also, although noone played it for the "story", you did know while playing that there was a purpose besides just completing the levels.

Haha, well, I'm not a fanboy of anything (I know some people have been calling this the "greatest game ever made" before they even saw it in motion.) People seem to do that a lot.

However, after playing a while, I've found that I've barely touched the surface and truthfully, as a casual gamer, I'm not sure I'll ever have the time to really go as in-depth as this game allows (for building levels, etc.)

The only semi-negative I could throw at this game would be that there are a massive amount of tutorials to accomplish. However, that is also a strength, since it shows the amazing amount of creativity one has at their disposal. The tutorials are simple and for the most part, everything seems to be pretty intuitive.

It going to suck to have to accomplish all those tutorials again (I'm assuming those of us in the beta will have to start all over.)

So, I think your right, the hype is really extreme (no, this game will not change your life, although, it may take away hours of your life) - but the hype about this game has always been about the endless creative possibilities availabel - in that respect, it comes pretty darn close (Especially if you have an Eyetoy. I haven't tried it yet, but I can think of a many thing I plan to try out - again, the possibilities are only restricted by your imagination).

It's like photoshop for gaming.

Yea your right CYMBOL this will take hours of your life. i went 6 hours last night without even knowing it.
i look at the clock and its 230AM building levels is fun and time consuming, im not even done yet with the 6 hours i had. look out for a level called backyard shananagins.
how many story levels will the final game have? i heard 50?

Best analogy I've heard for LBP so far. Newbies will get by with the basics, and as you learn more the value of the game grows.

I was going to buy Warhawk, but all you do is shoot people.

LittleBigPlanet gives gamers something different, which is why it is popular.

BTW----I am posting this from my PS3 with a controller. I need a keyboard.

Aside from the extra skins, that's probably the best news in here.

unboxing! (hope it hasn't been posted) pictures in the link

Quote:
It seems that these early copies were sent out for reporters to give their reviews. There's also another guy from MTV Multiplayer Blog, Stephen Totilo, who did receive such a copy, and he, too, took pictures of it as proof. According to him, the early copies of the game won't allow the user to see and share other folks' levels yet. The most you can do is play the ones that are in the disc, and make your own.

It's also said that the box gives out pretty generic details, such as the game playing in 720p, that it supports 1-4 players online and requires 600MB of harddrive space. There's also no mention in the manual of the Solid Snake and Final Fantasy VII add-on content, nor that of the paid marketplace.

What is there is a warm welcome note for the players:

We want to create a big, happy family — and that means the we all need to respect each other’s feelings. So, as tempting as it is, please refrain from being rude! No swearing, no rude drawings and nothing that would offend your granny.

Anyhow, us mere mortals will be getting a copy of the game the same time as everyone else, so we'll just keep our eyes peeled out for more news to bring to you.

So I want this space suit. And, as I mentioned before, I'm getting a non-gamer friend to get it for me. And I have a funny story to tell you guys.

So, I sent him the money to get the game for me and I was like. "It's called Little Big Planet."

He said. "Oh cool. They have a game now?"

I said. "huh?"

He said. "That family on TV with the little people."

I said. "Little People Big World?"

He said. "yea."

All I could do was laugh. lol. Anyway, I thought you guys would think it's funny. And it's even more funny that its true.

Can you please add me to the list. I'm sure I requested earlier in the week, but have been away and notice I'm not on the waiting list. Would really like to try this game. Although, do the Beta codes work in the UK, or only the US?

The beta ends in 18 hours or so. It's probably a little late to be added to the list. I'm bummed it's going to end... I want to try to get out one good level before it's gone.

I can't agree enough. There seems to be no end to the tutorials or the things you can do - it's a bit daunting.

Basically, they made a platformer - and then gave you all the tools to make your own. I've started a few times and got bogged down trying to do specific things but felt like I should really accomplish all the tutorials first - but I ended up stopping cause the beta is ending soon and I didn't want to have to do them all over again.

But truly, this game will eat away hours of your life. Beware!

ACK! Beta's OVER! I thought it was open until midnight.

At least I got a level published before it was over.
