It's a fun game (despite the issues we often discuss in this thread). I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.

Haha. I assume there is some sort of rounding going on. So maybe you had a 4.51, and it dropped to 4.49, and it just appears it was a bigger drop.

I'll console myself by thinking the 2-star Chaplin is really the 2.49 star Chaplin. I think it's just because it's during the day, and not too many people have played it. It's not exactly the most amazing level ever, but it's the first Chaplin board, and the first level I've seen that's black and white (though I'm sure there are others).

As crazy as it sounds, maybe some people never heard of Chaplin before, and think the level is just some completely wacko thing I came up with.

In any case, I don't really mind. I like the level, and the way it came out. If it ends up with 2 stars and 30 plays, or 4 stars and 2,000 plays, I don't really care.

The tags for it so far are things like Artistic, Fun, etc., but there was at least one Frustrating thrown in. I'm not sure what they found frustrating because the hardest part of the level (the scene based on Modern Times) isn't all that difficult. Most people won't die a single time, but just in case something crazy happens, I put a double-life door in the Modern Times scene. Maybe they were frustrated at all the talking the director did. Who knows.

Hey toefer - played Chaplin. Well done. However, I can definitely see that many would be put off from the usual "run and jump" levels (especially since many kids and young adults probably have no idea what those stories were about (except most likely the gears part).

I appreciated the artistic value (although I kept dying getting stuck in the gears!)

I really liked the changes with the scenes.

My kid was watching and complained about that guys voice. I had to agree after a little while. I was thinking, maybe you could have his voice come out in the first one - and then silent on the subsequent quotes in that particular scene; since I think it will be obvious that he is the one still talking. Another artistic choice to make, no right or wrong way to set it up.

Soooooo, what's your next level? I know you said this would be your last for a while - but come on, you knocked this one out in a couple of days - lets have another one.

My level will likely not be done till mid next week. I have to spend time with my family, and I have a Warhawk Clan game this Sat. Oh well, eventually.

But to be honest, I doubt I'll finish my Winter Wonderland tale completely before Christmas. These levels just take so much time. . .

Thanks for the tips. I agree that his voice can be a bit irritating after a while, so your suggestion is a good one. I'll go back later to all the parts where he says multiple things in a row, and just put sound on the first one. I didn't realize how many mouths I was going to use at first, so it just became a habit to make a mouth, type some words, change the sound, and make it invisible. I was like a machine producing those things.

The gears thing is a bit annoying, and I forgot that I had originally had things placed near the gears, but when testing the level, the gears kept breaking, so in the process of fixing them, I took down the other stuff near them, and forgot to put them back. They were basically just triangular and trapezoidal shapes of metal, with random bolts in them, which helped guard you against falling between two gears. Kind of like in this picture, upper left corner...

I was trying to go for this shot with the ending, but the camera wouldn't zoom in as much as I was hoping:

Anyhow, I'm still semi-retired. Basically, I'll stop making levels now until I think of another idea I feel like doing. Which will probably be tomorrow, or the next day. But anyhow, I'll enjoy the retirement while it lasts.

Think I figured out the frustrating part. On the gears, if you try to jump on the small grabbable wheels on the first gear near the top the game moves you back one level onto the gear - which pretty much results in you getting killed between the gears. I had the same issue with the jumping further up too - if you didn't mean to cause a challenge of jumping between the levels, I'd just paste some sort of wedge on either side of the gears (close but not touching) and that should keep the sackboys from accidentally switching levels.

Also, not as big a deal, but for some reason I didn't trigger the whole text on the shoe. So I didn't realize I had to grab the seat - not a huge issue, but if someone doesn't walk back to the director and trigger the rest of the text, I could see them getting stuck and frustrated there - though that would be there own fault since all you have to do is take a breath and backtrack to figure it out.

I love the way the level looks though - the black and white is sharp. THe bear nose a a moustache was funny though.

FINALLY got all the prize bubbles. Had to do the 4 player ones with a random player and we both used 2 controllers which was a bit of a nightmare, especially with the lag

Actually - I tried to re-read something and got the very first one over and over again. It wasn't a big deal, but if I had missed something important, I'd be stuck.

I really wish they'd allow some more room on the magic mouths. Two lines can be very short.

Thanks to you too for the tips. Around the time you posted this (I just read it now) I was actually over at my TV working on the level. One of the things I changed was I added a metal block near the first two gears, which should help people from getting crunched. As mentioned earlier, I actually had this there a while ago, but the gears kept breaking, so I took a lot of things down, and re-built it all, but forgot to put the metal guard back in place.

I haven't really tested it out, but I imagine it works well. I was going to do one for the top two gears as well, but that gets into a bit of a problem, because it'd have to be further away from the gear that has a giant circle of sponge, which makes you stick out a bit (as opposed to hanging down toward the center of the gear).

One trick I noticed for not getting crunched (though I can't really explain this in the level in any simple way) is to just hit R1 if you think you are going to get stuck. If there are any sponges nearby, sackboy will grab them, and you'll pop out to the middle plane again.

I also took down quite a bit of the sounds for the mouths. After playing the level again on my own, I realized it can be a bit annoying to hear it a few times in quick succession.

The shoe part I need to fix, which I might do later. My plan is to just stretch the top floor out a bit further to the right, so that you fall to the right of the director guy, and trigger all the talking parts (I don't like how you fall so close to the chair). Forgot all about fixing that earlier though.

So that's who you are. I keep seeing your name while online, and couldn't remember where it came from. Sadly I just shut everything down, but if it still needs 5 by morning, I'll get you one closer.

Also your signature is missing a | in between HVB and whatever that game is with a bunch of letters.

Does anyone know if the size of the level on your moon surface reflects how much you can put in it? Or does it not matter?

Doesn't matter. I've copied and pasted levels - from a big crater to a small crater (and vice versa) and the themometer stayed the same.

I was wondering the same thing yesterday as well. I still prefer the larger ones, because they seem nicer.

Anyhow, I copied all 4 of my levels over into a single crater that had 4-mini craters inside of it. I changed all the titles/descriptions/icons to protect against the fear that one of my levels might be moderated out of existence. I doubt they'll actually come through and delete it from my moon, but just in case I have these secret little copies waiting in storage.
