Simpler music game tracks aren't cheaper to download so why is there an expectation that simpler LBP costumes would be?

Crappier music tracks are cheaper though. And I use the term crappy loosely, just to refer to unknown bands who HMX puts tracks out for.

Obviously it's not an exact comparison because we're comparing the notoriety of a band with the complexity of a LBP costume, but what they have in common is varying values. HMX realizes that the lesser-known bands aren't as valuable, and charge accordingly, so why can't Mm recognize a costume that involved less effort, or is less unique, should cost less, especially when they've done it before?

HMX set a standard that we expect a song with drums/vocals/guitar/bass, with varying degrees of difficulty, for $1.99.

So what if they put out a song next week and say "oh, we kind of slacked off on this one, and only did drums and vocals, but it's still $1.99.".

If you give us costumes with cardboard spaceships, or nice Street Fighter replica outfits, it seems a little cheap to expect people to pay the same price for dipping a sackboy in black, and throwing a little thing on its head.

The record company would set the license fee of a lesser known or older track lower, not HMX.

Two very well-known tracks, one much simpler to match inputs, do they charge less? I doubt it.

Well, I don't know about all that - but I think in general people just feel this isn't quite the level of costume design we'd expect to be "premium".

I'm not sure how often you play LBP, but many of the levels out there have come close to (or even exceeded in rare cases) MM's efforts and the costumes are no different. People have taken what MM gave them and just really perfected it.

Entire levels are made to provide tutorials on how to create them.

I think you'd be surprised how many people out there could probably make a very similar costume.

People have done amazing things with MM's product, in many cases (even MM admits) beyond what MM intended/thought of.

Anyway, I could go on, but I won't. There are some really exciting developements being made that MM has nothing to do with (creating teleportation, making things like infinite respawn gates, and creating earthquakes, etc).

So, when MM releases a fairly simple costume such as this, I don't think it's being unreasonable to be just a bit let down.

However, I don't buy costumes (they aren't my thing), so - if someone believes this is a great deal and wants this - that works for me.

Neither Harmonix nor Activision have ever said what they pay in licensing fees, but it's estimated to be between 50-65 cents per song (though obviously bands that protect their songs well like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, etc, could demand more). So if an unknown band gives their songs to HMX for free, that only accounts for some of the difference.

I don't know exactly how much work goes into making a single track of DLC for Rock Band, but I imagine when you are doing 4 instruments, across 3-4 difficulty levels, you reach a point where I don't think it makes a huge difference if the song is 120bpm with tons of guitar, or 55bpm with just a scattering of notes.

In any case, I don't really care because I haven't purchased any of the LBP DLC anyway (except for the MGS level pack). Though, to compare, the Loco Roco costumes were also pretty simplistic (and from a PSP game, if that matters), and it was only $2.99 for a pack of 5 of them.

Looks like a spot-on Sackboy version of a Patapon to me. How could they make it more accurate or detailed?

Toefer put it really well here. I dont think my idea on how to make this costume a few posts back is that far off. But I'm not planning to buy OR make this either way so more power to the people, it seems Shin may be included, who are. It's your money (if this is something you have to pay for, we don't know yet guys) so do what you want with it.

And no one's saying it isn't accurate or detailed Shin- it's a very simple design to begin with. If they charge for such a simple design-that's the problem we have here. No one is arguing that it is not a very well-made recreation. Just what they are recreating this time is something very basic.

I agree. I actually would've preferred if they did a sort of 2d costume, like that yellow and pink bonus costume you get, because it would have been something different, and more Patapon-y.

Just been on play.com and LBP is now only £12.99! If that price doesn't get the 'not sure about it' brigade to at least try the game, nothing will.

When I was playing this weekend, I've noticed that most of the level have a picture from stephanie_R. How come? Is it only coincidence? Or is she MM girls that add pics too levels?

She was probably an early player (perhaps with MM, who knows), that took a picture of herself and buddies and posted to the levels when the game first came out.

Not really sure.

Why is online play insanely fast? It makes it a pain in the butt.

I guess lags would be the term. It's not smoot at all. I'll be in one spot and try to go right. I don't move, then I'm over to far and dead. Does this always happen?
