First impressions from Eurogamer

It's all summed up beautifully by the game's main interface screen - so beautifully, we probably should have started there. Sackboy is in his cardboard-box space station with his giant PS3 controller (labelled "Puter"), looking down at the little big planet and its moon - "My Moon". The planet is labelled "story" (we're assured that there is one, sort of, but it's not very important). It has tens of themed level hubs with names like "Comrade Sackputin's Bunker", each of which seems to link to a dozen or so levels and mini-games. This, it's becoming apparent, will be a big game even if you never download or create a thing for it.

A button push flips the planet's surface to levels created by the LittleBigPlanet community, while My Moon is the gateway to your own creations, whether you've chosen to publish them to other players or not. You don't need to publish a level/room/art space/whatever in order to share it - you can invite anyone you like inside.

LittleBigPlanet 'pushing towards' alpha

Media Molecule looks to be on target for hitting this deadline, as this week a new post appeared on its Web site to tell the world that "We're still alive!" and that LittleBigPlanet is nearing the alpha stage--which tallies with what the Cambridge-based devceloper said at a recent UK preview event.

A long time ago.. and many many damaged controllers there
after proved in one voice indivisible on how aggrovating platformers
were to me..

With all the customization options available in a game like LittleBigPlanet, it's a concern that users will be able to create potentially offensive material. However, according to TheSixthAxis, Sony has a few ideas to stop this from happening when the game drops this fall.

The first is obvious: legal action. Try to add pornographic content to this cute little platformer, and you could be facing some serious problems. The second is a little more creative, and it involves the users policing themselves. Basically, you can rate your own content - in terms of something similar to an ESRB rating, we assume - and then, it must be submitted to the community for rating, too. If their rating clashes with yours, the content doesn't get approved. Of course, you can develop any piece of additional content you want, provided you don't upload it to the community. You can still share it with your friends and others, and all you have to do is keep it under wraps.

As this generation rolls on, user customization and mods will grow more and more popular. At the same time, it also means there's a growing potential for obscene content getting tossed around in a game that shouldn't have it. Sony is definitely going to have to be vigilant when it comes to cracking down on this kind of thing...nobody likes legal issues.

I highly doubt it. It's not often a brand new game sells as well as a Smash Brawl or Halo 3 will. These franchises have a very large dedicated fan base. Although LBP may be one of the most innovative games of all time, there will be a lot of people who are going to wait to rent the game first, and people who wont hear about it unless it becomes really really popular. I think LBP will have a very successful release, but no where near Smash Brawl.

i've read almost all these pages so far, and there's really nothing to describe the synopses of this game.

No.

It's a user-customizable 2.5 dimensional sidescrolling platformer.

Think multiplayer "Super Mario Brothers" but with widgets that you can create and use to get over hazards and obstacles, and a crazy physics system.

Watch the various trailers to see how this actually pans out in practice. It's quite charming and inventive.
