They're all kind of a mixed bag. One thing the Raimi movies have that TASM sorely needs, though, is this:

Spider-Man 3 is a bloated mess from a storytelling structural point of view, in fact I could point out a lot of things wrong with the writing and direction but its still more entertaining to me then the sappy boring forgettable Spider-Man 2. I know that isn't a popular opinion to have, but I have felt that way ever since 2004.

I guess I will have to agree to disagree with you since 2004 then.

Oh man, I forgot how funny J.K. Simmons was in those movies. He was sorely missed in The "Amazing" Spider-Man. Just cast him again for the sequel!

That's fine. For the record Maguire still does a good job playing Peter/Spider-Man, I like him across all 3 films (though certain moments in SM3 are hard to watch). Haven't seen The Amazing Spider-Man but Garfield looks like such an arrogant smartass, really unlikeable from the outset and I don't care if its more faithful to the Peter from the comics tbh.

I thought the Spider-Man II was the best as far as story.

I also didn't think the third movie was the disaster some have claimed, but definitely below I and II.

The latest movie was okay, but that actor just didn't seem to fit Peter Parker so much as far as from the comic.

Other than him being too old, he was basically perfect as Peter Parker. Unlike Tobey. Not to mention how perfectly cast Gwen Stacy was. I thought they went to far with the lizard, but the recent movie was much better cast than the Sam Raimi movies.

Funny how a 4K Blu-ray thread has turned into a Spider-Man discussion. Heh.

Give TASM a chance. I was turned off initially by a reboot so soon. And Andrew Garfield didn't attract me as much as Tobey did. Not to mention how awkward the costume was.

But I grabbed the 4K BD and it didn't turn out so bad. Good story, good casting, good direction.

I'm looking forward to TASM2 now. The updated suit looks awesome.
But I still cannot figure out how on earth Mary Jane can still be written out of the story so late into production.

I love the Raimi Spider-Man movies (even 3, which I don't think is that bad). Because I love the Raimi films so much, I was hesitant to watch The Amazing Spider Man, but I watched it recently and enjoyed it a lot.

I'm so glad people have posted links to caps-a-holic.com. They've so far covered a handful of the Mi4K titles and those comparisons really make-or-breaks certain re-releases. Here's my take from what's been covered on the site so far...

(No comparisons yet for Karate Kid, Total Recall (2012), or The Other Guys.)

*Significant improvement from previous release:
-Glory
-Spider-man (2002)

*Identical quality to previous release:
-Battle: Los Angeles
-The Amazing Spider-man
-Taxi Driver

*Worse quality than previous release:
-Ghostbusters (black crush, DNR boost)
-Angels & Demons (black crush, odd red tint added)

I was super impressed with the new transfers for Glory and Spider-man. I'm not at all a fan of Glory, though. But I just ordered Spider-man to replace my old purchase. And I went ahead and pre-ordered Spider-man 2 (2004) since a similarly outstanding upgrade can also be expected. Also, I put in another pre-order for Pineapple Express since it was shot in Super 35 and only previously given a 2K transfer. I expect great things from this one, as well. I will continue to support the re-releases that show significant improvement just as Spider-man and Glory have so far.

I thought Parker was supposed to be a bit nerdy, plain, and "average". That seemed to fit Tobey much more.

The new guy seemed like an appeal to the teenage girls.

False! The new master of Ghostbusters was create by Sonycolorworks (like Glory, Taxi Driver, Lawrence d'Arabia,...). They have scanned in 4k resolution the original negative, and created a new 4k restored master.

You'll find that the new Ghostbusters transfer is much better then the old one. It's probably the M4K disc with the biggest transfer improvement.

I don't know what transfer you're looking at but the new Ghostbusters transfer doesn't have any DNR or black crush. I own the disc so I would know. The old transfer appeared grainer because the contrast was jacked up to ridiculous levels. The contrast boosting also affected the black levels too, making them look more greyish.

Yeah I would also say Battle is no different but 4k amazing spiderman has a edge. More sharpness/focus on the main objective in all shots so I don't agree on that one.
