Atmos over ARC is confirmed. My Pioneer receiver supports Atmos, but I don't yet have the add-on modules that I need to hear it.
Sorry to derail the thread, folks, but there was talk of the Vizio TVs and HDR support, and I just wanted to offer some insight... |

Yes if you want Atmos, because it's casting from the tablet to the television, with audio sent to the AV receiver via ARC. Otherwise, you could always use optical cable instead, limiting yourself to regular DD.
It's the lossy version of Atmos, BTW, based on a DD+ core; UHD Blu-rays would be based off a TrueHD core and are therefore preferred. Last edited by bferr1; 05-27-2016 at 05:27 PM. |

From what I've read, these 2016 Vizios are currently only available direct from Vizio and from Best Buy. I bought mine at a BB in early April. IIRC, wider distribution won't happen for another few months, but I could be misinformed...

I just wanted to know that the Panasonic player will do both audio and video through one output only as I have multiple devices into the receiver and just one output to the screen. Thanks for your reply. |

@bferr1, we are authorized Vizio dealers, but do not sell their TVs. I have several excellent contacts at Vizio and I included the "R" series to compete in our 2016 TV Shootout, simply because I believe it belongs in our TV evaluation event.
@slamma, yes Pansonic's new DMP-UB900 4K BD player will output HDMI 2.0a with HDCP 2.2 and audio over one HDMI input so you are ok. If your receiver is HDMI 2.0a/HDCP2.2 compatible you will pass 4K HDR beautifully. The second HDMI output is for audio only. -Robert |

Correct. For some reason when it comes to Vizio P, it can only be avaialble through Vizio or through Best Buy...No other seller carries it.

Jesus tapdancing Christ... does anyone know how to actually get one of these in the US? I ordered one from Amazon UK in April but it's still showing 2 months away (after missing the original ship date of early May). Being that UHD discs are region free, I was going to use this as a region B player for BD and keep my Oppo for Region A. There doesn't seem to be anyone who actually ships internationally and actually has them in stock. I've never seen a player so difficult to actually buy (and don't even get me started about the US version not showing up for several more months. 3 months into a new format and we've still only got one player available. RIP 4K... you're going to die before you ever had a chance if everything works like this.

Better than 2006 when we just had the Samsung BD player for months on end. |

At the AVF someone said that their Panasonic dealer said that there were 2500 back orders for the London area alone, so I'm not surprised that it's as rare as rocking horse poo outside of the UK. Panasonic appear to have severely underestimated the demand for it (which is surely a good indicator for 4K's prospects) but I just hope that people aren't expecting Oppo-like build quality & media functionality out of it because they may be disappointed otherwise (it doesn't even play HEVC files over USB).
But it's a cracking disc spinner nonetheless and I love mine. |
