Hi,
I have just bought a Samsung UBD-K8500 to pair with my Samsung 4K TV. I have a very specific question and I was hoping someone could help. I bought a couple of Monster HDMI Cables with Performance Indicators. Based on some of the reviews I have read, I have connected the amplifier to the Bluray player with one hdmi cable and the other one from bluray player to the tv. I have then changed the settings on the UBD-K8500 and directed the audio to HDMI 2 port of the bluray player. When I have put an UHD Blu Ray to test, I noticed both indicators of the HDMI Cables show "HD" as opposed to "4K". Later on, I have removed one of the HDMI Cables and directed both video and audio to the HDMI 1 port of the UBD-K8500. When I played the same disk, this time the indicator was showing "4K". Based on the above, am I right to assume that connecting the UBD-K8500 only with one HDMI cable gives a better result? Many thanks in advance! |

Secondly, the HDMI 1 port is HDCP 2.2 and 2.0a compliant and can send 4k video with HDR10 and audio together. That's for when you have a similarly compliant receiver or pre-amp in the chain that will allow 4k and HDR10 signals to pass-through to the display. Otherwise, the HDMI 2 port is supposedly 1.4 with a lower level of HDCP encryption that only sends audio in case your 4k TV is fully compliant, but your receiver or pre-amp is not. |

Then HDMI monitor out to one of the TV's HDMI inputs. There may be a setting in the TV that you have to enable for 10 bit video processing. Samsung's normally have HDMI UHD Color mode. Sony's normally have HDMI Enhanced mode. Check with your manual for more specifics. The player should have Deep Color set to off and other changes to the settings discussed in this thread. If you have a Samsung display, turn off BD-Wise on both the player and the TV. Be sure HDMI audio has Dynamic Range and PCM downconversion set to Off as well in the Samsung player menu. My suggestion on returning the Monster Cables and saving some money still stands, however. ![]() ![]() |

Does anyone else think the remote of a piece of crap? It makes the Apple TV remote seem good.
![]() The buttons are so cramped, it's so easy to press the wrong one (especially in the dark, when you can't see the buttons). I'm referring mainly to the up, down, left, right, and ok buttons. |

I ordered this one, I read on AVSforum that it works with our player. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/152275338451?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT |

ya, the remote is almost useless. I noticed a friend's 2015 Samsung TV has the same remote but less buttons. I chuckled.
![]() I use my TV's remote to control player though HDMI-CEC, but I have other Samsung BD player remotes sitting around in drawers. |

In the Samsung setup menu for sound, go to HDMI audio out and set it to Bitstream (Unprocessed). That way the raw audio tracks off the disc or streaming app get sent to your receiver. Turn off PCM Downconversion and Dynamic Range Control as well. You want the player to leave the audio data untouched.

I can no longer view the source info by hitting the "123" button on the Samsung smart remote then selecting the "i" to show the screen resolution and if it is displaying HDR etc. Does anyone know if you can pull up the screen resolution on the netflix app like you can on PC/Consoles etc? |

I have a 40'' Philips 4K T.V. set that has no HDR but it does have a 10 bit panel display. On the picture settings I have HDMI color set to Auto and Deep Color off. What will happen if I keep HDMI color to auto and change Deep Color to Auto instead of off? Will the Samsung player output a 10 bit video signal and improve color?
