Why do people like no-vehicle games?

Too difficult for them?

I guess Socom kind of lends itself to that, but a helicopter or car or something might work. No vehicles is kind of limiting and takes away some strategy/skill.

Good stuff.

Quote:
1UP: I wanted to ask some questions about more specifics, with regard to the community content and stuff like that...

SL: We're working on a website for SOCOM; it's going to be socom.com. We were able to get the URL, which took us a while because SOCOM existed before the game. We're really excited we have the URL; we're creating basically the largest website that SCEA has ever done for a game. It's going way beyond the typical game site that SCEA does. It's going to include a blog; it's going to include frequent updates, information about the games; and then it's going to be tied directly into the game through friends lists, clans...you'll be able to manage your clan online, you'll be able to look at all your stats online, you'll be able to look and see what tournaments or games you have upcoming. So it's a fully integrated experience, something we're really excited about.
Quote:
1UP: Do you have any idea about what kind of pack-ins you will be including with [the retail version of] Confrontation?

SL: Yes, we're definitely going to be including a Bluetooth headset. It's going to be different from the one included in Warhawk. Since we had more time for the release we've been working to create a high quality Bluetooth headset we're really excited about. I hope to be able to talk more about that soon.

1UP: And you guys are doing that yourselves, the headset?

SL: It's going to be a Sony created product. You know, there are always different types of people you work with when creating it, but yeah, it's something we're looking at creating and bundling.

I wish Warhawk let you sprint, lie down, roll, etc.

Of course, there are no vehicles I guess, so it's a tradeoff.

Does Socom have auto-aiming? I hate this in Warhawk. Totally removes skill. The game is nothing more than who started firing first.

It damn well better not have auto aim!

Leave the vehicles in Warhawk, they only ruined the Socom game play with them...hell, I would rather see 8vs8 than 16vs16. 8vs8 was more team/clan/friends oriented, when Socom3 released with the large maps to handle the vehicles and 16vs16 that team work was gone.

Sure you had a few working together, but there was always those who just did their own thing and didn't give a ratsazz about anything else but their own stats...

IGN - SOCOM: Confrontation Declassified
Slant Six brings us up to speed on the series' PlayStation 3 premiere

Quote:
IGN: What can you tell us about the headset?

David Seymour: There are a ton of really cool features that we aren't ready to discuss just yet, but the goal of the Bluetooth Headset for PS3 was to provide a superior online voice chat. It delivers enhanced clarity through a dual-microphone design for active noise cancellation and has the ability to support accurate speech recognition.

I disagree with you there. Socom 3 had a greater emphasis on team work, and my clan almost never had problems in playing them or coordinating the larger team. At our peak, we had a little under 30 players on our clan, that all got game time during wars, and we were very effective at utilizing the vehicles on the larger maps. My clan leaders understood the strengths and weaknesses of the players on our clan and utilized them as such.

Your assertion that 8vs8 is more team oriented is wrong. With fewer players to manage, it's easier to cover for the selfish or stupid players that want to do their own thing, or try to get all the kills. 16vs16 you needed teamwork and communication more than ever. Even a couple of selfish jackasses that would get owned early in a map could make a huge difference in the outcome of the round.

Zipper's new SOCOM game needs to have co-op(not sure if the other ones had it or not, havent played SOCOM since the 1st.) On that note, I am looking forward to Confrontation. September can not come soon enough. Then again, I guess Metal Gear will be able to hold me over until then

I don't think we will see SOCOM 4 this year since this one is coming out in Sept. I suspect that Zipper's game will be a Fall 09 release.

SOCOM: Combined Assault did have a 4 player, online co-op mode that allowed you to run through the campaign without the idiot AI, lol.

The game will ship with 7 maps. With other map packs for download over the PSN. I just hope that its not months before we see the map packs because 7 maps will get old very fast.

Not necessarily. Ask any of the members here how they got on with 5 maps for Warhawk before the first expansion came out. Don't forget that each map also has all of the different game modes, which can completely alter the way a map is played. Control Points, Suppression, Escort, Extraction, Demolition, Breach... and I believe there's a new Suppression mode available. Of course, as someone mentioned earlier, Convoy will not be included.

It's pretty good. It would be even better if our clan leader/site administrator didn't keep crashing our forums every few months.

I played SOCOM 1 and 2 in a great clan with great support. We reached very high in the individual rankings set up by the SOCOM forums and did great in tournaments. I absolutely LOVED them to death.

When SOCOM 3 came out it all ended. SOCOM is a tactical shooter, not a war. I think the few people here defending S3 and vehicles need to understand that the game was ALWAYS meant to be a strategic tactical game and the vehicles brought in a brutish, straight forward quality that many, many people didn't like. The game is meant to be quiet with it's firefight moments. God I can't wait for confrontation..
