If Ryan gets 121 what does Rodgers get 140 lol my god when does it end half this country is in poverty and ppl still act like thesre guys are gods.

So Flacco signs a record contract and hia first purchase is going to McDonald's for some chicken nuggets. Well at least there's one pro athlete who likely won't end up bankrupt the minute his contract expires.

Rodgers will get more, but he's also older from the 3-4 years backing up Favre. But nobody is getting 140 unless they sign a 7-year deal.

Depends on if he eats like Andruw Jones (yes, some exaggeration on the math). Braves' wives put together a cookbook years ago. Bachelor Andruw included his recipe of 20 McNuggets, large fries and SuperSize coke.

Some more statistics from Pro Football Focus on how poor this contract is....

Quote:
Player regular-season production relative to the 309 million cap dollars committed to the QB position, as calculated by Pro Football Focus. The better the performance, the higher the performance-based cap hit (PBSCapHit).

Name PBSCapHit
1. Peyton Manning, DEN $16.32M
2. Aaron Rodgers, GB $13.95M
3. Tom Brady, NE $13.80M
4. Drew Brees, NO $13.67M
5. Matt Ryan, ATL $13.34M
6. Russell Wilson, SEA $12.57M
7. Eli Manning, NYG $12.26M
8. Robert Griffin III, WAS $11.33M
9. Ben Roethlisberger, PIT $10.77M
10. Tony Romo, DAL $10.67M
11. Matt Schaub, HOU $10.58M
12. Cam Newton, CAR $10.45M
13. Matthew Stafford, DET $9.56M
14. Ryan Tannehill, MIA $9.54M
15. Jay Cutler, CHI $8.63M
16. Andrew Luck, IND $8.53M
17. Sam Bradford, STL $8.28M
18. Carson Palmer, OAK $8.23M
19. Joe Flacco, BAL $7.75M
Quote:
It might seem crazy to suggest that 18 other guys deserved more money than a quarterback who led his team into the playoffs. But let's break down the play of Flacco. Of 38 quarterbacks who attempted at least 175 passes, the Ravens QB had the 33rd (or sixth-worst) adjusted accuracy percentage (a stat that accounts for drops, spikes and throwaways), behind guys such as Blaine Gabbert, Nick Foles and Sam Bradford.

When Flacco was pressured, he had the 20th-best completion percentage, and when he would go deep (which he did on a league-high 17.3 percent of passing attempts), he was only 18th in adjusted accuracy percentage out of 33 quarterbacks who attempted at least 28 passes. So you can't blame the numbers on drops but rather on the horribly inconsistent play of Flacco, who would look like a star against the Raiders in Week 10 then stumble on both occasions when Baltimore faced Pittsburgh.

In part, the Ravens got to the postseason in spite of him, with his play on the field largely forgettable at times.

“He should average at least $21 million, $22 million or $23 million,” said Joel Corry, a former sports agent who covers football business for the nationalfootballpost.com.

Under Corry’s forecast, a six-year deal for Ryan would fall somewhere between $126 million and $138 million with more that $60 million of it guaranteed.

Corry noted that Ryan is represented by Tom Condon of Creative Artists Agency. Condon also represents several of the league’s top quarterbacks including Peyton and Eli Manning, Matthew Stafford, Drew Brees, Robert Griffin III and Philip Rivers.

“The guaranteed money and what your first three years of compensation (is) the most important issue,” said Corry, who received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Emory. “I expect Matt Ryan to exceed $60 million in guarantees. He’s probably going to be at $65 million-plus over the first three years. That wouldn’t surprise me.”

The Falcons are trying to figure out how best to handle Ryan’s contract and craft his salary cap numbers in a way that will allow for the team to take on younger talent and remain highly competitive.

There is no internal debate about Ryan’s worth to the franchise.

“He’s our franchise guy that we’re very proud of, on and off the field,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “Matt’s what we’ve been looking for in a quarterback.”

The dollar values aside I do think this list is a fairly good ranking of NFL QB's overall. Though I do think Flacco is a little better than some of the guys ahead of him like Palmer and Stafford. He's probably somewhere between the 12th and 15th best of 32 starting QB's.

I think they're underestimating the value of star QB's just a bit with these values. Going back 20 years plus the only teams who won the Super Bowl with a starting QB either not in the HOF or not likely to make the HOF one day are the 2000 and 2012 Ravens and 2002 Bucs. You literally have to have a great QB to win a Super Bowl.

Well we really have nobody to blame but ourselves. The market largely dictates player salaries and us fans are "feeding the beast" that is the NFL like never before. When you have millions of people looking forward to somewhat mundane things like the NFL combine on TV you know you have a juggernaut.

It's very possible that Bowe won't be the third-highest paid receiver for long with Mike Wallace and Greg Jennings free agents and Percy Harvin angling for a new deal.

Wow, I was way off, I had Bowe at $8M! I can see now Jennings getting $8M+/year and Wallace getting $13M/year in a bidding war!

I view this as you literally have to win a Super Bowl to be viewed as a great QB.

Being an all time great stats wise doesn't matter at all without the ring. And Several of the current "Great QBs" wouldn't be viewed as such without the rings. Peyton Manning would be Romo without the ring. Hell, he almost gets that treatment even with the ring..."He can't win the big one".

The only QBs viewed as "great" who don't have a ring are those who are so young people view potential instead of results. Be in the league 5 years without a ring? You can't be great. Marino would be viewed as a disappointment and overrated in today's NFL.

As expected, Jagaurs released CB Rashean Mathis. He was a pretty good CB but the past several seasons, his skills have diminished a lot as he became less physical and let guys beat him off the line.

Probably his most memorable games was when he picked off Ben Roethlisberger a few times and one where he returned it for a TD in a regular season OT game.

Howard Eskin reported this morning that the Eagles will cut Nnamdi Asomugha today, but now multiple reports, including a report from Eskin, are saying he won't get cut today. Asomugha is guaranteed $4 million this year and there is no offset so if he is cut he'll get whatever he makes from a new team plus $4 million from the Eagles.

Well Peyton had some really good teams around him in Indy. He played on 8 Colts teams that won 12+ regular season games. The talent was there, but he always came up short in the playoffs.

Dan Marino played with mostly average to mediocre talent around him nearly his entire career. He played on just 3 Dolphins teams that won 12+ games and really the only teams talented enough to compete for a Super Bowl were early in his career (1984 and 1985). And in those years the Niners and Bears had two of the greatest teams of all-time, killing his only real chances at a ring. Flip Montana and Marino and I suspect Montana would have retired ringless and Marino with 3 or so with the Niners.

Neither is doing it. The Falcons are certainly not going to waste their money on Revis when they still need to resign Grimes, William Moore and give Matt Ryan an extension, which they want to get down before the season starts.

Manti Te'o would be a joke target on Houston Texans

Quote:
Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said Te'o would be the subject of considerable hazing thanks to, well, you know.

"Our locker room is full of clowns and, oh man, people would kill him," Smith said on NBC Sports Network's "Pro Football Talk." "I mean, he would be the butt of every joke for at least two, three years."

Smith said Te'o's chances of fitting in depend on how he reacts to the ribbing.

"You just got to be a good sport, man," Smith said. "It is what it is, and you know it is out now, it's out in the papers and on TV. So, all you can do now, you can't worry about it, you can't change it, all you can do now is laugh -- laugh with us while we're laughing at you."

Can someone help me understand, why did the Steelers pay Antonio Brown, instead of Mike Wallace last year? Is he asking for that much money, where we just can't pay him?
