Rex with a well deserved extension after the miracle job he produced where we were predicted to be the worst team in the league. The deal placated both sides in that it's not guaranteed past 2015 and has postseason bonuses should we get some postseason wins. Rex is better than any of the HC that were hired this offseason.

He is a hell of a defensive coach... I admit he is fun to hate... but think he may have learned being such an obnoxious a-hole doesn't help him win games. The extension is a bit a fraud though, he is still coaching year to year at this point.

Yes and no. He is now guaranteed until 2015 and his contract is a multi year extension so it looks better than it previously did. He still has room for growth as a HC and is really clueless on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully another year of MM will provide some continuity to that side of the ball.

Chud had what, 3 years left? It looks better, but at the end of the day if they go 6-10 do you think it matters? He barely got retained after a great job going 8-8 when everyone was expecting him to get the axe.

Yeah let's not compare us to the Browns lol. Different situation than the Browns. A new GM usually brings in their own coach, but Idzik inherited Rex. That's always a dicey situation, but Rex has the support of the owner, so that's what saved him. If he flops next year and we win 4-5 games I could see the axe falling. 6-10 could go either way depending on what happens during the season.

You kinda proved my point. The extensions was itself only for show. Rex had the support of the owner at the very end of the year.Like I said the extensions was purely for sure only.

I don't believe the extension was for show. Why would they do it and not let his just run out if they were unhappy, as you claim? I think it's safe to say any coach could lose his job going 4-12 or something, but most teams have more offensive talent than the Jets, and that's pretty well known. I think maybe keeping Marty was a bad choice, but it's his choice and he has more football knowledge than us.

Rex is a weird guy.. I'm not defending that fact. The thing about him and his wife posting pictures online a couple years ago

The real question is will Geno improve at all?

I think anything less than a playoff appearance and Rex is gone next year. Woody Johnson won't stand four straight years missing the playoffs and won't hesitate to replace Rex with one more guaranteed year left on his contract. This year Rex had the excuse of a rookie quarterback and arguably the worst skill position players in the NFL but next year they're going to expect improvement.

Browns wide receiver Davone Bess was arrested early this morning at Fort Lauderdale International Airport for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement official. It's been a rough week for Bess.

Bess was walking down the concourse "acting irrationally," singing, dancing with his pants falling down.

When the officer went up to Bess to have him stop, he crushed a cup of coffee on him, and got into a fighting stance.

Officer struck him in the leg with his ASP (his baton?), but it had no effect. Bess then took off his shirt, and got in fighting stance.

Officer: "He appeared to be looking through me when I was talking to him."

If they were so happy with him why did they wait until the end of the season to announce he'd be back? Of course it is for show, there is no other reason for it. He was already under contract for this year, so if they do part ways after next season they will now be on the hook for 2015. The only reason was a show of support and give off the appearance that he isn't a lame duck. I'm not criticizing the move, The Jets were much better than I thought they'd be due in large part to Rex. If they were going to give him another year then they had to extend the contract.

Bess has to have a serious drug problem. He's posted pictures of drugs multiple times on Twitter and missed the final 2 games of the year for personal reasons. I doubt he ever plays another down in the NFL, the only question is whether the Browns can get out of the $3 million he's guaranteed for next season.
