Dolphins hired ex-Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum as executive vice president of football operations.

Tannenbaum's title is a fancy way of saying he'll be owner Stephen Ross' new football czar, a la Mike Holmgren in Cleveland. He spent the past year as a "consultant" to Ross. It's an ominous development for GM Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin, though both should be safe for 2015. Czars typically like to bring in their own underlings, however. General manager of the Jets from 2006-12, Tannenbaum didn't stand out as a man deserving of a second chance to oversee someone's entire football operation, but the Dolphins rarely make sound decisions. Tannenbaum was an abject disaster his final years in the Big Apple, though did have the good sense to hire Rex Ryan, and oversaw a roster that made back-to-back AFC Championship Games. Either way, Ross is grasping at straws with his latest dart-board throw.

Sources tell Yahoo Sports as many as 10 teams are prepared to make "titanic pitches" to impending free agent Ndamukong Suh.

Per reporter Charles Robinson, that includes the Jaguars, Browns and Raiders, who are tentatively projected to have the most cap space this offseason. The Jets and Falcons could also be in the mix. Robinson reports the Lions are leaving the franchise tag on the table as an option even though it would cost an otherworldly $26.7 million. The Lions would have to undertake all sorts of cap wizardry to make that number work. Detroit knows it would be foolish to let Suh get away, but the financial particulars of the situation make it a real possibility.

On paper the Colts are the most likely road team to win this weekend. I am probably going to pick them to win... Peyton has lost it.

But, at the same time, if the Broncos will commit to the run, they'll win. The Broncos defense is good, and Luck hasn't had a good career in the playoffs so far. He'll throw a couple of picks.

Tough call... There's pretty much always one road team to win each week in the playoffs.

It is now being reported on Detroit Radio here the NFL has sent an official apology letter to the Detroit Lions regarding Sundays game. The word is it has nothing to do with the controversial PI call but rather a 4th down blown holding call on Dallas which would have backed them up to 4th and 16 instead of 4th and 6.

Is it possible to move on from this, please? We get it the refs screwed the pooch in that game & Dallas ultimately benefited from said screwing.

Admit what? That fact the refs screwed up a PI call? A holding call? I wonder how much baiting you would be doing had the outcome been in Detroit's favor & Dallas was shafted out of a win? The same or none at all?

The NFL is really sorry for what happened in the Lions' loss to the Cowboys Sunday.

The league is so sorry that it admitted to the Lions that its officials missed a holding penalty in the fourth quarter on one of the plays during the Cowboys' game-winning drive, according to ESPN.

This apology, of course, comes a day after Dean Blandino, the vice president of officiating, admitted the officials should've called defensive holding on what is now an infamous overturned pass interference by Dallas linebacker Anthony Hitchens on Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

On fourth-and-6 with 6 minutes left, Dallas left guard Ronald Leary held Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to give Tony Romo enough time to hit tight end Jason Witten for a 21-yard pass.

The infraction didn't draw a penalty, and the Cowboys finished the drive with a touchdown.

Now, the admission of guilt by the NFL doesn't do the Lions any good because their season is already over. And this missed call has nothing to do with the overturned pass interference that preceded it, a play that hurt the Lions in immeasurable ways.

Officials, though, miss holding penalties every game. There were others not which with the Lions could've griped, and there were likely others the Cowboys could've complained about, too.

Yet, no matter what the league or officials say, the game is over, and the Cowboys advanced to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.

The funny response would be a posting the letter publicly with a big ass REJECTED mark stamped on it. The letter does nothing but let us know we were right and we essentially got screwed. Honestly we have nothing else to talk about until Saturday anyways. You dont like it dont come in this thread.
