Kind of incredible what Stafford got for being a marginal top-10 starting QB in the league. I mean he's decent and healthy. That's about the best I can say about him. He's just not a top-tier QB and there's no indication he ever will be.

He was an MVP candidate last year before sustaining an injury towards the end of the season.

Yeah, his stats aren't there, in terms in road wins or against winning teams. Detroit hasn't won a playoff game. But that's not all on him.. he's 1 guy out of 53. The coaches have been terrible (and I'm still not a Caldwell fan), the offensive coordinators have all been an even bigger joke (except Cooter, we need to keep him forever). And it obviously took awhile to clean Millen's mess. Defensively, Detroit is statistically bad except the one year we had a Top 5 defense. He also hasn't had all that much help from the run game.

But there aren't other options for QB1. And we aren't going to draft one and push the reset button entirely. So, it makes sense to pay the franchise QB (the guy that has most of the QB records in franchise history, and some NFL records for his age). With Quinn as GM, he's made our offensive line into a strength and defense is getting better.

Tony Romo's highest salary for 1 year I believe was $25 million and I'd argue he wasn't worth it. Don't want to see how much Dak gets in 2 years if we make the play-offs the next 2 seasons.

It'll be like 5 year 150m extension but avg will be less than 30m since he is still getting paid peanuts on final year of rookie deal

No clue why teams don't do this more often we keep seeing teams wait until the rookie contract is up. Why the patriots did this for gronk and it was hella smart. But how the cowboys salary cap is they won't extend him until after his rookie contract. I'd bet Aaron Rodgers hits 180m extension or maybe 200m.
