I think there was a good chance the Redskins would have taken Ponder at #16 if the Vikings hadn't taken him so I think it was smart to take him there. The Vikings must have wanted Ponder more than Gabbert because it would have been incredibly cheap for the Vikings to trade up to Dallas' #9 pick. The Cowboys wanted to trade down and Tyron Smith would have been available if the Cowboys traded to the Vikings #12 pick so the Vikings probably could have moved up for something like a 2012 third round pick or this year's fourth round pick.

Well I think that they could have gotten him (if available) or Mallet in the second round. Why waste such an early pick when 3 teams had already taken QB's before them?

I agree that they should address the OL in the 2nd round, unless there's a good option at CB.
The problem is the Millen Era is still damaging this team, the OL is needed now more then ever to protect Glass Shoulder himself, otherwise we are screwed when it comes to our 50 million dollar investment.

I am still incredibly concerned with the secondary on that defense, as well as the OLB position, if the Lions can address all that + the Guards my god what a team it will be.

As much as ppl are upset with the LT I don't see him as much of an issue hes dependable not injury prone and an overall decent player. The Smart move is for the Lions to continue what they are doing and build through the draft.

Especially with today's rumor surfacing of Ocho coming here, pictures of him practicing with Stafford and Johnson surfaced today, will be interesting to have him as a 3rd receiver if they can manage it, but I believe he is still under contact this year.

The Ravens are telling the league that the Bears owe them a fourth round pick because they had agreed to a trade in which the Bears would trade their first and fourth round pick for the Ravens pick but that the Bears failed to confirm the trade with the league. The Ravens claim they got the player they wanted anyway in Jimmy Smith but it's not out of the question that the Ravens truly wanted receiver Jonathon Baldwin, who the Chiefs jumped them to pick. The Bears were trying to trade up to get Gabe Carimi, who ended up falling to their original pick. The league will likely decide today or tomorrow if the Ravens are entitled to any compensation.

Couldn't agree more. That guy gets injured too often. But now the D-line should be good for a long while. Build a line through the free agency/next years draft and pick up other players to fill the D holes.

As a life-long Lions fan, I am VERY concerned with their secondary, as I have been for the past decade or so.

I'm pretty happy with Fairley, but would've been ok with Prince too.

I have no issues with Fairley, From what I am reading at one point he was considered to go #1 overall. If KVB mentors him like he has done with Suh I see nothing but fantastic things for the Lions in the future. I hope that they do not overpay for a CB in Free Agency like they did in 2004 with that CB from St Louis, cant remember his name I'm drawing a blank. I am really concerned with that OL tho, I truly believe they need to trade up grab 2 Guards in the draft and then I will consider this a successful draft. Mayhew has been a godsend after the Millen era, so it will be interesting to see what he does, obviously he did not think much of the CB class of this draft so we will see.

Don its a hellva pick no question about that. I know there was a lot of debate about who was a better CB Him or Smith tho which may explain why he dropped to 19. Still not sure why the Lions passed on him

dude, im not a farley fan, but that pick......eatmed with Suh.....makes so much sense.

Jim Schwartz is a defensive mind.
you have the new "Williams Wall" from the Vikings heydays that nobody could rush on them

i thought the pick was great for your team

Quarterback Tony Romo made his first appearance at Valley Ranch Friday morning since the lockout was lifted by a judge.

Also showing up today were Igor Olshansky, Jason Witten, Miles Austin, Phil Costa, Sam Young, Stephen McGee, Kevin Ogletree, Marc Colombo and Teddy Williams.

It's interesting to note that Colombo is at the complex less than 24 hours after the Cowboys drafted his replacement in tackle Tyron Smith from USC in the first round.

The Cowboys are scheduled to pay Colombo a $2.6 million option bonus by the 15th day of the league year, which hasn't started yet.

Jerry Jones said Thursday night he expects to visit with some players who come in to visit with the coaches and one of those players will be wide receiver Dez Bryant.

Jones talked to Bryant on the phone Thursday and said he wants the receiver to get looked at by the medical staff to make sure his surgrically repaired ankle is healing properly. Jones will also discuss several off-the-field issues Bryant has had with mall security and about some financial issues he's having.

Cowboys players are allowed to workout at Valley Ranch today, however, the team will begin the weight lifting portion of its offseason work on Monday.

And if that works out and we do have the new Williams wall then so be it, then i will be happy but you have to understand we have had so many years of bad football we have no choice but to question everything.

Yep it was a good pick. Not to mention he won't act up the way he might on say the redskins, with Suh, Stafford, Johnson, Bosch he better not act like a diva.

What did you think of your teams picked? Kinda shocked they seemed to reach on Nate.

HAHAHA Iggls reach for Watkins

Happy Ingram went to a good franchise.

Not like you guys picked a good player either, maybe you can have Marc Colombo now when we cut him in a couple of weeks.

Kerrigan is a character guy which we really need on the line (chased down Pryor a bunch which is good enough for me, even though I'd have traded down), but again if Haynesworth won't play or we have a glaring hole in the middle, both Orakpo, and him won't be able to be fully impact the games the way they could.

Tyron Smith will get thrown into the fire and I don't think he'll hack it right away. But maybe in a year or 2

We're also in a great spot to pick up even more talented players in the second with two high picks

Dez Bryant is having financial issues? I never could have imagined that.

Out of curiosity did anyone else Enjoy how the Fans Booed Goddell every time he took the Podeum. I did enjoy the 10 minute we want football chant at the beginning of the draft. Problem is it is not Just goddell that is the issue it is also the players owners etc it is the entire system that is the issue.

What a great pick for Buffalo, that should really help to clog up the middle of our line. I'm eager to see what Buffalo goes for at #34, I'm guessing Ayers but Dalton and Bowers have to be tempting.

Buffalo had a really good pick hard to mess up number 3 unless your the Lions and you take Joey Harrington

Smith will have Jason Witten right next to him most of the time, I think that will be a lot of help. It will hurt Jason Witten's numbers a bit but if our line play goes up a notch or two that's fine since we have a lot of weapons at RB and WR anyway.
