Dolphins Kenny Stills and Jordan Phillips both knelt during the national anthem last season. The league and its teams seem to be doing whatever it takes to keep this story in the news. It is a baffling approach.

Wasn't this already solved by having the anthem happen when they're in the locker rooms? Don't wanna go down this rabbit hole again but I thought we'd finally kinda sorta maybe moved past this for a bit.

Not really, but getting rid of it outright would cause even more problems.

This has the potential to get worse. Don't be surprised if players stand, but some of them turn their backs to the flag during the National Anthem if they start getting really pissed off & feel like they're getting backed into a corner with this issue. Just let them kneel if they want to, before this gets really ugly.

This is just another example of Goodell's incompetence. This should have been handled years ago when Kaep started kneeling by offering the union some sort of minor concession in exchange for the players standing, but instead he let it spread and become a major issue. No matter what policy the league enacted was going to be criticized and fought by the players because the league unilaterally made a decision rather than negotiating with the NFLPA to try and come up with a solution. Now they're pretty well screwed because the league and union hate each other so much that it's practically impossible for them to peacefully negotiate.

"No one man should have all that power." The next CBA really needs to dissolve the strength of the Commissioner and adopt a more Federalist approach. Let the individual teams start dictating certain policies like this one. If Goodell and the League try to stonewall, the NFLPA has more than enough evidence in its favor showing the other side's general incompetence.

I agree that the commissioner’s power needs to be distributed better, but the players tend to cave during work stoppages.

When your pulling down 50-100k checks every week and they suddenly stop because of a strike, it doesn't take these guys long with how frivolous they are with the their cash to break and need those checks to keep coming.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk on NBC Sports, the Packers have made no "meaningful progress" in extension talks with Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is relatively underpaid at his current $22 million-a-year salary, though he hasn't publicly demanded a new deal, and until that happens, the Packers will probably look to maintain the status quo. The two-time MVP is due a surprisingly reasonable $39.8 million over the final two years of his contract.
