The Bengals crime spree continues. After Pacman Jones' previously mentioned arrest 2 more Bengals were arrested in recent days. Safety Marvin White was arrested Thursday for disturbing the peace and simple assault after he reportedly became verbally abusive to management at his child's day care facility. Then this morning Cedric Benson was arrested for assault causing bodily injury to a family member. There aren't many details on Benson's case but it could cost him a lot of money as he's due to be an unrestricted free agent and was expected to be a hot commodity coming off back-to-back 1,000 yards seasons. Now he could be facing a lengthy suspension if the NFL is allowed to punish players for arrests during the lockout as he has been arrested multiple times in the past.

For the Bengals I'd say it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. They seem to go out of their way in giving troublemaker players far more chances than they deserve. Everyone has know of Pacman and Benson's problems for many years.

NFL free agency is expected to begin roughly one week after the finalization of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
For now, the expectation is that an agreement will be done this Thursday. Teams will get three days to study the new labor rules, followed by three days to sign undrafted rookies and "keep their own." Free agency should start on the seventh day, now estimated at July 28 (not July 25). Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post describes free agency as "a fire drill. ... Packing four months of moves into about four days." The month of August will be jam-packed with NFL news.

A columnist with the Chicago Sun Times reported that this weekend but everyone involved with the game denied it. Even though the quality of the game will probably be horrible it's likely the game will still go on even if free agency doesn't start until the 28th and the game features players that have only been on the team for a couple of days.

Moviefan, I love football. I mean I freaking love it!!! But you, I don't know how to describe your relationship with football. I appreciate it though. We just have to hold on a little bit longer. I'm just glad I'll be able to watch every Packers game this year.

This would require a lot of quality free agents, more than I believe are out there. Especially because the true quality free agents will undoubtedly be going to the teams who aren't already under the cap. What I meant by "not being able to get free agents to join" has little to do with player decision and more to do with team decision on who's quality enough to bother with.

I for one won't be happy if some stupidly bad players are signed to deals just to get to the new minimum salary. Oh well, short term problem I guess.

Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson and Patriots guard Logan Mankins reportedly want either $10 million each or unrestricted free agency as part of the CBA settlement. Jackson and Mankins are named plaintiffs in the Brady vs. NFL case and no settlement can occur without their agreement. Both players sat out the first 7 weeks of last season in protest of being restricted free agents due to the expiring CBA, and both players had their teams franchise them prior to the lockout. ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't think Jackson and Mankins would actually hold up the CBA settlement though because of the backlash they'd get from fellow players and fans.

Mankins and Jackson are idiots but I honestly wouldn't mind if we could find some way to get Mankins into Dallas, we could really use the upgrade at left guard. Between him, Free and Smith, we'd have one of the best offensive lines in the league, which would help Romo a lot in his bid to finally do something in the play-offs.

Agreed. And honestly, as a Chiefs fan, I wouldn't mind seeing VJax either in a Chiefs uniform or out of the AFC West at least.

I don't see a way the Cowboys could get Mankins or any big money free agent. According to the link below the Cowboys are currently at least $18.9 million over the salary cap and they still need to re-sign Doug Free. The Patriots are around $32 million under the salary cap so I still think there's a good chance Mankins and the Patriots make up and sign a long-term deal.

The Boston Globe's Greg Bedard says that in addition to the free agency demands by Jackson and Mankins Peyton Manning and Drew Brees want to be exempt from the franchise tag for the rest of their careers. This could be the NFLPA just throwing out demands at the last minute seeing what they can get but it could create problems. I'm a little surprised all the named plaintiffs in the Brady vs. NFL case haven't asked to be exempt from the franchise tag for their entire careers because the plaintiffs in the 1993 Reggie White lawsuit received a franchise exemption.
