Steelers OC Bruce Arians informed coach Mike Tomlin that he's retiring from coaching.
Arians, 59, flirted with the idea last season before Ben Roethlisberger changed his mind. Although it's possible that the Steelers could go outside the organization, QBs coach Randy Fichtner is considered the favorite to take over. Arians had always run an offense more pass-oriented than the rest of the organization's ideal, so Roethlisberger's attempts could go down going forward. On the other hand, Arians never ranked in the top-10 in points scored, and the 2011 average of 20.3 was the team's lowest since 2003.

Echoing coach Sean Payton's early-week comments, free agent Drew Brees said he would be "beyond stunned" if he doesn't reach a long-term deal with the Saints.
Now that the season is over, Brees hopes get a contract hammered out "very soon." Both sides, according to Brees, are "very confident that a deal will get done sooner than later," aiming for an agreement between now and the start of free agency. The NFL's most prolific passer over the past half-decade, Brees could land the richest contract in league history.

Dolphins hired Packers OC Joe Philbin as head coach.
Broncos OC Mike McCoy overplayed his hand and may now be stuck for another year with Tim Tebow. Philbin was owner Stephen Ross' preferred option, and the man with the most money usually gets his way. Philbin, 50, was the Packers' offensive coordinator from 2007 through 2011. While he was second in command to offensive-minded HC Mike McCarthy, Philbin helped engineer a unit that never ranked worse than ninth in total offense during that span. Philbin runs a West Coast-style scheme and may attempt to lure free agent Matt Flynn to Miami. Brandon Marshall flourished in a similar offense under Mike Shanahan in Denver, so he'll know the terminology. We like the hire for the Dolphins' skill players.

Packers OC to Dolphins head coach. I'm not even sure that's a promotion. Miami is going nowhere as a franchise and unless they trade up they're going to suck at QB yet again next year. Flynn would probably be an improvement but I'm not sure he's exactly a franchise QB.

I believe the Redskins are going to throw ridiculous money at Flynn. I think he's a good looking QB, but he is very unproven. But we all know Snyder and his spending ways.

I'll bet Flynn ends up being similar in talent to Cassel in KC. Cassel is a very average NFL starting QB. His numbers were just inflated when he played for New England as Flynn's are in his limited playing time with Green Bay.

In fairness to Cassel his 2010 season was as good if not better than his 2008 season with New England. He's a competent starter.

I'd say it was better. I'm talking about his overall body of work though. His other two seasons with KC he was fairly average. Definitely a competent
starting QB, but about an average NFL starter.

Any QB though going to that KC mess wouldn't have faired all that well. I think he did ok for the situation he got thrown into.

I honestly don't have a problem with them doing that. He has almost the exact same body of work that Aaron Rodgers had sitting, and while I doubt he'll come in throwing 4k yards going to a mess of a situation like the Redskins/ Dolphins, its worth a shot. At least money doesn't set you back 4+ years like drafting a Jamarcus Russell (RGIII) would.

People also forget he was drafted in 2008 the year Aaron Rodgers got his start and solidified his job as the starting QB, its not like he had an open QB competition while he was there.

Hopefully the Luck family verbalizes to the Colts that Andrew does not want Tressel as a head coach. There are much better options out there. Having Andrew Luck as your potential #1 pick is a huge draw.
