I believe there will always be people saying FW x.xx broke/bricked my system because of improper installation. This usually happens when installation is cut off when it is not yet finished..for others, unless there really is a bug..then it must be coincidence.

I've had no problems with FW 3.15

Neither have I, but some of the problems are legit. Uncharted's freezing is one thing that is even though I never tried it during that time. It does get old seeing people complain that each firmware bricks people's systems though.

Well, my OG PS3 went YLOD again. Little less than a month after the DIY. This time it has NBA2k10 in it. Don't think I'll bother to DIY it again and just send it and hope I get a decent 60GB that will last awhile.

The fix wont last long. Just get it up and running yourself with a cleanup/thermal paste/heat gun to do a backup and de-activate accounts, then buy yourself a slim. If you absolutely need a 60, you can send it to sony who will send you a refurb for 150 or 180, i heard they raised the prices. Good luck.

Ugghh. You can't just remove the hard-drive from my bum PS3 and transfer it to the new slim PS3 and retain all my stored info?

Just got my replacement (160GB) for my dead 60GB, but the fan is really QUIET!!!

On my 80GB PS3 when I turn it on the fan kicks in and slows down but on the new 160GB one it just kind of hums all the time and doesn't really "kick in" like my other one. I did try the fan cleaner (switch off at the back, turn back on holding the eject button) and the fans went full blast like they should which was reassuring.

Should I be worried? I really can't be arsed with another dead PS3 in 6 months.

It was still $149 as of December 2009, not sure if it's changed since the New Year.

I just had my original 60 gig die on me on Friday. I hope that it will come back to life after I took it to this shop near me where A LOT of people get theirs fixed. I am so bored at night without Black Beauty! With a little bit of luck she will be fixed this week and back to me by Saturday.

Default PS3 in the shop

I had to send in my PS3 slim 120gig for repairs, i.e. fan noise and the system wouldn't power on (sometimes, not all)

so sony sent me this message:

Your product was received on 01/14/2010.
Due to high demand, your system is currently on back-order . The turn around time for product service is approximately 7 to 10 business days from the time we received your system, not including shipping and handling times. Due to the current back-order, turn around time may exceed 7 to 10 days. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

did anybody else (who sent there ps3 in) get this dreadful message? and how long did you have to wait a 3 weeks? a month? two months? three months?

I have been concerned lately with my slim have issues connecting to my network. My laptop has had zero problems connecting to my network. It's been fine today. I was starting to consider calling sony to fix it, but was really hoping to avoid it because a lack of funds. It's seems like they make these things to break or something. This is my 2nd PS3, the first one lasted about 2 years and then didn't read any discs. I really don't think i would get a 3rd.

Just got off the phone with Sony, it's $149 + 29 shipping + Taxes = almost $200

Can anyone recommend proper materials to due the self fix? Preferably from Amazon. I need a heat gun, thermal paste, and anything else?

Also, what's a rough estimate of the chances that the self-fix will work at least for a little while? 50%, 90%?

Thanks. Life without PS3 sucks!
