I think this is some cool looking packaging. I want to wait until I see season 2 though to see if the show stays good before buying this.

Default Blu-ray wishes do come true.

I grabbed copies of those images for posterity's sake. Smaller versions available below and I just have to say, thank goodness it's not April 1st!

Netflix giving physical media some love! A sound business decision if you ask me. I'll be the first in line to get this. Thanks Netflix!

Smart move
Target's been releasing Master of None DVDs as well. Must be some deal they've struck, which is a good move for both. Just no point in buying these (for me anyway) since they're available in 4K via streaming.

Physical copy will always beat a streaming copy no matter what. You can never own Stranger Things digitally but the Blu-ray is yours forever

Part of me wishes they had gone all in and released it exclusively on VHS; with an accompanying soundtrack on cassette.

I agree but when it comes to Netflix stuff, I can't feel compelled to buy. Their stuff isn't going anywhere anyway.

Not sure, I know I saw something (I don't watch the show so I don't really know). Might've just been the first, but I'd be surprised if they didn't release the second as well.

To be clear, that was distributed by Universal, they just didn't put out a BD. Same thing with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Hoping a Canadian retailer will distribute this in Canada...or there's a helpful American around here somewhere...

That is fantastic news!!!

I don't watch the show, but it is great to see a Netflix-produced series making it's way to home video for all of us to see. Some people don't have or don't want Netflix.

Netflix should definitely continue releasing their shows on DVD/Blu through Target.

I wouldn’t dismiss this blu-ray release right away. The packaging says it’ll be 4 discs (probably 2 blu-rays and 2 DVDs) which means that, if encoded properly, it’ll best the 4K version available on Netflix. The episodes max out at ~15 mbps when streaming at 4K, and you can definitely tell because there is a considerable amount digital artifacts including macro blocking, especially in dark areas, and some banding as well. If these blu-rays are encoded properly those issues won’t be present on the blu-rays and you will actually gain more detail (even more important since a decent portion of the story takes place in low-light conditions), plus lossless audio, potentially. I know there are more pixels in 4K (and only that since it doesn’t even have HDR) but it doesn’t mean much if the encoding is compromised.

It’s 8 episodes total which average out to about 50min each, meaning about 200min in each episode. It doesn’t seem it’ll include any special features so it’ll be just the episodes on the discs. Titanic (1997) was encoded to fit in a single disc (the 2D version), and that is 194min long. And if you’ve watched the blu-ray it looks gorgeous. That’s only a 6min difference so it can definitely look great quality-wise on these discs. Let’s hope Netflix didn’t spare any expense on the encoding.

Personally, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and buy the discs (either pre-order online or if that is not available then make line outside the store before they open, lol). Either way I like having a physical copy, even more so with that packaging, and I can’t imagine it looking worse than the 4K stream in Netflix.

The other Target Merchandise is In-Store Only and doesn't even ship, I really hope that they have this for pre-order online and that's it's not in-store only. My Target's SUCK at keeping stocking fresh or even updated, and I know I'd have to drive well out of my ways even to find copies of this in stock.
