Similar problems would happen with my father and brother, uncle and cousin, and aunt and grandmother (and sometimes mother since her last name changed after she married my father and she shared a first name with said aunt and grandmother; she goes by her middle name, though, so problems happened a lot less).

On my father's side of the family, for who knows what reason, most of the males all shared the same first name. Aside from one of them being a "junior," all the middle names were the same. For example (fake names, of course): Robert John Smith, Robert John Smith Jr., Robert Stanley Smith, Robert Richard Smith, and so on.

Unfortunately, many of the women on that side of the family were named similarly. For example: Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Elizabeth Smith, Sarah Katherine Smith, etc.

Sometimes led to various medical mixups, billing errors, and other headaches. It didn't help when the other person would be lazy and wouldn't provide any information to help differentiate who they were looking for. "Seriously, you don't have a birthdate, or last 4 of the SSN, something?" I remember once, as a little kid, going with my mother as she was having some testing done at the local hospital where pretty much all our family went. Due to similar names, there was a mixup.

"Really?! Do you think I've had that procedure done?! The file you have is for my mother-in-law who is 70 years old! Do I look like I'm 70?!"

It finally took my mother having to show her driver's license and point out that the middle names were completely different, and even then, the worker at the reception desk was like, "Um, are you sure?"

Anyway, I hope things work out for you, Groot. I know how frustrating that can be.

Is there ever a person who has it all? It seems everything has its tradeoffs.

Saw Zootopia again earlier today, this time with my folks to celebrate my mom's birthday, and they both surprisingly loved it. We haven't all gone to the theaters together in at least 15 years, so I enjoyed spending time with my parents at what I now consider my sanctuary away from home.

Then we hit up Benihana's for dinner, my first experience ever at that restaurant. Ordered "Rocky's Choice," which consists of Hibachi steak and chicken grilled to my preference, and included some other things like shrimp, rice, soup, etc. as a part of a 5-course meal. Very delicious, and I'd definitely consider revisiting in the future.

Your post made me smile (well, as much as I can right now), Dan. I'm really happy to see that you had such a lovely time out with family. Everything from the movie to the meal sounded wonderful. Happy Birthday to your mother, and lots of love and best wishes to you and your family.

My family loved Zootopia, too, especially my parents. They actually said, "I really hope you get that on Blu-Ray. Loved it!"

Ah, times with loved ones are things to cherish. Gotta create happy and new memories as much as you can.

Back on topic, something is weighing on my mind a little, but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. Not my issue. As much as I beat myself up, I'm a much better person than most of the people I meet. Or at least I hope so.

Are you, though?

I don't know - in my experience, the people walking around thinking (and telling other people) that they're better than everyone else... rarely are.

Seems reasonable. You should see how much we pay for car registration here. A lot more than $80.

Enjoying my new place and getting everything I need set up.

The price goes down as your car ages. So last year I paid close to $600 for a two year tag. I have heard other states have it for much much cheaper.

No, that is for car registration. I'm saying $80 is not bad in the scheme of things...

Apples and oranges as different states collect different types of fees and taxes to pay for their annual expenses.

I just found out Craig Sager, TNT NBA Sideline Reporter, has had his cancer return for a third time and only been given 3-6 months to live. He's always been fun to watch, especially when he'd interview Popovich, and seemed like a super-nice, humble guy who had a niche due to his outlandish, but nicely tailored suits. It's sad to hear when someone can't fight anymore, but he seems optimistic and going for one more battle. I can only wish him well and good luck. He's a brave man to keep facing the end the way he has since 2014. Truly an inspiration.
