Finished on a 2K DI. Most likely newly transferred from the camera original for the 4K master, Sony insist that all of their movies shot on film but finished on a DI get taken through a traditional neg cut, meaning that creating a new (and genuine) 4K transfer is a lot simpler. I've not heard how they treat VFX in these instances, whether they just cut a filmout into the negative or whether they upscale the 2K digital originals, although the latter could be tricky if spread across lots of different vendors.

4K DI via 5K 16-Bit scan of 35mm master positive then graded to HDR.

Sources are Japanese articles I translated with my knowledge of the Japanese language (you can use Google translate, it doesn't do too bad)

?
X-Men & X2 coming to 4K disc? (Dark Phoenix won't be out for a while yet).

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I thought X2 was an early DI.

Maybe we are in for a similar great resolution as we wait for 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K Blu-ray to be released on October 30, 2018. I just preordered it for a net cost of 20.52 (using Amazon 5% cash off Visa) - which promises to have quite the "master film"

This is exactly what happened to me when I got my 65" Oled from Costco last February (I also got another $500 off the Costco Price using a unique benefit from their new Visa . . . another story) . . . and I worried about what to do with my BluRay Library!

So a few weeks after I tuned my Oled . . . I found a Blu-Ray I bought in a few years ago that was stilled sealed (stored in my stash section to watch later) . . . and it was the 1982 film BLADE RUNNER which was reissued in 2011.

After inserting it in my 4k Upscale Player and into the first 15 minutes . . . the WOW factor hit me! What the heck is going on??? A blu-ray that looks as crisp as a regular 4k movie??

Turns out the biggest factor was how the studio used the best master available . . . and then produced a high-K transfer to be used in a standard Blu-Ray Format. Now that the official Blade Runner 4K is out, most of the reviews are saying there is not that much difference.

So my Blu-Ray library is not going to get tossed for a while . . . as I begin to rediscover which titles look as good as 4K . . . which may not be as good as Native . . . but close enough.

The AC article mentions that the filmmakers were still angling for a DI finish during post but the studio was prevaricating (the suits also insisted on screening film dailies rather than digital ones) and that no decision had been made, have never found anything since to indicate it got a DI.
