Clean your lens. It is caused by smudges/oils/grease on the glass. Don't use your shirt/kleenax/paper towels! Most of them have fabric softener which can smudge more, also, you'd be grinding rough material on your delicate lens. Always use a microfiber cloth with water or a non-alcohol lens cleaner. Don't use windex either.

When I purchased a 1080p TV and a Playstation 3 ten years ago, I bought "Kingdom of Heaven" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" on Blu-Ray because this site listed them as the must-have reference quality videos of time. I'm still using the same electronics and I've now seen those two movies so many times that I can nearly recite them. Thankfully, the next generation is here and I've decided to purchase a 65" curved 4k TV and an Xbox 1-S.
So after 46 pages I'm still confused, what is the quintessential reference quality UHD film that we need to buy to make our friends jealous? Is it "The Revenant", or has a true 4k quality disc yet to be released due to the persistence of 3.5k cameras and lower-quality intermediates? |

I would try and find 3-5 movies YOU LIKE, and read up on various reviews around the web to decide on a demo disc for YOU to show off. Reviews vary greatly on even the same titles, so Google around and average them out. Last edited by RealorFake4K; 11-07-2016 at 10:38 PM. Reason: formatting |

I think both real and I can agree that the revenant and Pacific Rim are demo material. One being a 4k and one being a 2k upcovert.

And don't spend a lot of time focusing on 4K DI vs 2K, some 4K DI's have proven to not be as good as their "inferior" counterparts.

TMNT 2 was very good, as one example. Xmen Apocalypse was good, but not great.
I think too much weight may be placed by all of us on 4K vs 2K DI, instead of looking at what the product put out by the studio is. One should not buy a 4K DI on the assumption is will be a stellar release, vs that of a 2K DI. When I said counterparts, I meant other movies with a UHD release that were only 2K DI, not the blu-ray version or anything like that. Too many people have said "I wont buy if it isnt 4K DI", which is flawed thinking. |

Thanks for the informative responses, the "realorfake4k" website is very helpful. So it seems that between manufacturers agreeing on HDR10 or Dolby Vision formats, 4k sets becoming affordable, and the release of the Xbox 1-S, the UHD technology is finally here. But according to everyone here, the ones who aren't quite "there" yet are the filmmakers who still tend to work with 2k digital copies and render visual effects in 2k. I wonder if they choose 2.8k or 3.4k camera equipment for ease of use or familiarity, since 6k, 6.5K and 8k cameras have been readily available.
