This upcoming release will NOT be the Lowry restored version of T1, but a repackage of the existing version.

It sucks.

That does suck. I would say the the existing one is "good enough" but then again that kind of flies in the face of the whole Blu-ray mantra of "best video/best audio." I'm mostly concerned with T2 anyway, so I'm just glad we're getting an awesome version of that. Mine is already pre-ordered on Amazon; I'm paying whatever they're charging.

The description of the Skynet Edition of T2 says it will be an AVC encode as opposed to the original MPEG-2 and the audio will be DTS-HD MA 6.1 instead of two lossy options. Should be much better.

I would consider it but it's one of my favourite UMDs and I only have so many of those. If it comes with a digital copy that I can actually get to WORK with my PSP, count me in.

The video listing is wrong, according to the man doing the encode (Van Ling) it has been done using the VC-1 codec.

That DVD player is pretty cool. Never saw that before. A BD version would be awesome.

is it a brand new film-to-AVC tranfer?

or is it just a transfer from MPEG2-to-AVC? (MPEG2 from the current T2 Blu-ray version)

thank!

First one is here, with lots of screencaps. It's in french, but I'm sure you guys can google translate it and get it :

Thanks for posting. While I was too lazy to bother translating it, you can still tell what they rated everything:

Video - 16/20
Audio - 19/20
Special Features - 18/20

All in all, it seems like a very positive review.
