Well this is all pretty disappointing . . . I just unloaded my original copy to get the Skynet version. I guess the extended edition + DTS-HDMA is still worth the purchase . . . but I'm not as excited about it as I was. Damn DNR.

Here's hoping the film's 20th anniversary will provide something better! Don't know if I'm getting this one or not. Either way I'm glad I canceled my Skull edition. Damn DNR job.

Compare the two images at DVD Beaver.

Clearly you might need to check in with an appt. at the eye Dr. lol
the two images look pretty much identical outside of color scheme.

edit: double clicked on both. 2006 has more film grain... that's about it. skynet edition isn't missing any fine details.

Digital Noise Reduction. It is used to eliminate grain but it smudges the image, when used too heavily, thus causing loss of detail.

The picture I'm looking at clearly looks digitally scrubbed vs the first release.

looks like they scrubbed the grain out and nothing more. where exactly do you see a loss in detail?

Take a look at Linda Hamilton's cheek and skin.....more detail for sure on the original compared to the Skynet.

Anytime, Reaper.

You know, they gave Lowry Digital Images the first Terminator film to restore. I wish they would have given them the second one too. LDI is the company that did an amazing restoration job on all 20 James Bond Films.

The bright side is, this is certainly not the last Blu-ray release of Terminator 2. Just look at the different DVD versions of this film. Weren't there like what, 12? lol. idk

T2 Blu "will be back"

Look at her shirt straps. The lines in the fabric are smudged in the new one.

lol you guys are nitpicking to the extreme. the difference in audio will be much larger than differences in visuals.

if you have to look at a still to barely tell a difference than it's not really that important. i'll go with the extras and better sound.

as for the inevitable 20th ann.., what if you wait and it's still the same transfer? lol

They repurposed all the extras to PiP - in most cases this is a bad thing. Is there anything that makes this an OK thing in THIS case?

I agree, facial detail lost in new Skynet Edition. DNR Sigh. Why didn't they just use the japanese masters and have each feature on a separate disc and higher bitrates.

Does anyone know how the Skynet edition compares with the European T2 releases?

It might seem like nitpicking to be looking for differences on (my 24") computer screen, but these differences are obvious on my 92" projector screen. DNRing like this makes an image look more like DVD.

Size is unimportant when you also have to factor in distance.

Yes it is. Look for instance at the fine lines in the rim of her sunglasses in the headshot on DVD Beaver. You will see it on the old encodes but it is missing on the new encode.

The increased detail is obvious in several other aspects of that shot too.
