No it actually isn't. Sure the HD broadcasts have more artifacts, blocking etc, but the detail is better and they look more natural then the Skynet edition BD IMO.

The Skynet edition just looks so flat, soft and smeary.

I have no problems with the skynet edition. Not perfect but we'll get a remaster eventually.

I havent seen the T2 HDTV transfer in ages but the Skynet Edition is pretty poor and i own it. Its as slick as glass, DNR'd to hell and back. The original 2006 blu is better IMO even though it uses MPEG 2 codec. One day, we will get a 4k MPEG 4 transfer. The question is when?

Same here as well. Compared to the Netflix version in Super HD, the Blu ray still looks much better.

I agree, I had the Skynet edition but sold it in favour of the 2006 blu-ray. The theatrical cut will do me now until the 4K release comes along.

Great. I'm so thankful the studios give us the opportunity to buy the same titles over and over again.

I'm not sure what they did exactly, but the DNR they used gives a real slick and glossy look. It almost reminds me of one of those Photoshop filters to create a certain look. I wish I could have just kept the original Blu myself, but sold it anticipating the Skynet would be better for PQ.

And lose out on the awesome lossless DTS HD MA track...... Might as well not even bother owning either edition. The lossy DD EX track can't hold a candle to the lossless track. I can easily live with Skynet's video quality.

The Skynet edition's lossless track was indeed amazing but I would rather have the 2006 blu-ray release because it doesn't have the terrible menu and the picture quality is better than the (UK) Skynet edition I used to own. T2 really needs a better release than what we have currently.

I agree, and it's nice to have the option for comparison, but the DD EX is no slouch in the bass dept., especially with a little extra volume.

No argument there, that menu system definitely needs to be scrapped when they do a new 4k remastered version. But still I live with it because the lossless track is awesome.

Its not a bad track, but it sounds rather dull compared to the lossless track.

Yes, the lossless track does indeed rock on the Skynet.

Why the U.S 2006 release over the UK 2008 release? It's PQ is superior to both U.S releases and has lossless audio as well.

Or you could get the Japanese release. Best of both worlds if I recall correctly. The 2008 us release has a horrid amount of dnr applied, the 2006 release has only lossy audio.

There is always the option of the Japanese release. However I mentioned the UK release because the member I responded to said he used to own the UK Skynet edition, and his location states he is from Ireland. The 2008 UK/Australian release is one of the best versions currently out there.

My go-to copy is still the UK Special Edition. No heavy-handed DNR, lossless audio, and the long cut of the film. I own the Skynet pretty much just for the extras. I can't remember the last time I watched the theatrical cut.

Yeah, I knew that after I bought the 2006 release that the UK Optimum release was better. I don't feel the need to buy another release of T2 until it gets a new transfer.

The official review on this site says the Skynet edition has more detail than the other edition, despite the DNR.

+1. Exactly the same for me. Think I paid £6 for a used old Optimum disc which was mint anyway. Picked up the Skynet for the extras for £5.
