I'm waiting for a proper release of "The Abyss" for at least 12 years. Incredible.

Before the 2 "Premium Edition" releases, there was a standard release with one disc. This could be either a repackage of the first release (which IIRC is like the first UK release and looks good), or it could be a repackage of disc 1 of one of the Premium sets.

well, maybe we could get a new Bluray of T2 in 2016 to coincide with the 25th anniversary?
Hope so!
have kept so long from purchasing this film and it's in my 10 most favourite films ever.

It will be rumored next year, but not come out for at least 8 years afterward.

Robocop and The Terminator are still classics but I found T2 hard to get through. The FX still hold up well but the violence is what gets me now. In the original Terminator Ahnuld is the bad guy but in T2 the violence is just too much. When they are escaping the psyche hospital and Ahnuld pulls the cop out of the car and smashes him face first into a beam am I supposed to laugh? I don't mind the violence in the Friday The 13th, Halloween or Nightmare On Elm Street films when annoying teens are being massacred but the violence in T2 strikes a nerve. My brother and I probably watched T2 every day over the summer that it was released in the theater and I wore out the VHS tape but perhaps I have just outgrown the film.
I'm not hating here, but to be fair, the movie ends up being about how Arnold's terminator ends up learning the value of human life. He doesn't kill anyone when John intervenes and tells him not to. That is actually one of my favorite things in the movie. I love the scene when they are driving to intercept Sarah before she can blow Miles Dyson away. When the terminator pragmatically states (he is a machine after all) that killing Dyson might actually prevent Judgment Day John simply yells back "I don't care". John already gets it even at his tender age. Yeah killing Dyson might stop the horrible future, but at what cost to our souls now? Cameron even stated his intention with the movie was to show how Sarah by that point has become almost totally a machine herself. It takes her son and a real machine to pull her back into humanity. That and the sight of Dyson's family trying to protect him. I also love the scene when he shoots all the police cars, but then he does a scan that reveals to him and us that there are no human casualties. So in the end we can have Sarah's final line in voiceover about how if a machine can learn the value of human life maybe we can too. I'm not gonna try to sway you if you really feel that way now. That would be useless. I'm just putting my view out there for your consideration and hopefully respect if not agreement.

The post above this actually made me rethink T2 and I will finish it tonight. I forgot to mention that I did turn it off around the time they get Sarah's stash of weapons. It really had been along time since I had seen it so...

I hadn't seen it in a while myself. There is a lot of "collateral damage" in the movie, but most of it is at the hands of Robert Patrick's T-1000. Arnold's T-800 is programmed to follow John's commands, and later on John switches on his learning ability so that he can begin to learn how to act more human, so John starts teaching him how not to kill people. Sarah does more damage in the movie than even Arnold's terminator, but then that is to show just how desperate and enraged she has become.

I'm reaching my breaking point now. I wanna see this movie on blu already. I've held out long enough.

Whichever comes newly released first......Steelbook, New/remastered Edition or cool new Slipcover, I'll be all over it.

I didn't mind buying the T2: Skynet Edition for $5 even though it has heavy DNR. Don't even care about having it with the slipcover either. My choices were to import the Japanese Premium Ver. 2.0 with DTS-HD Master Audio 2-Disc, which is already cost prohibitive to me, or wait for a complete 4K remaster with all the fixings.
So yeah, this is solely an interim for me since it practically retains the majority of bonus feature content at such a low price. The Skynet Edition is woefully inferior compared to the wonderful remasters MGM gave RoboCop and The Terminator. Oh well, it's an older release in the Blu-ray format.

Yeah, even if the disc is flawed it's still well worth the cheap price you can get it for, and MUCH better than any DVD version.

Based on my reading of that release's listing at NBC Universal Japan (ex-Geneon), I'd say that it's simply the Special Edition (i.e. 152-minute cut) disc from the original 2-disc Premium Edition release and not the later 2-disc Premium Edition Ver. 2.0 release.

The list of on-disc featurettes ("No Feat But What We Make", "T2: More Than Meets the Eye", and "T2: On the Set") and audio codec used (Dolby TrueHD, instead of the 2.0's DTS-HD MA) all indicate as such.

My thoughts exactly....I finally caved in at the Black Friday $3.96 price point. Even then I was thinking, "Should I"?.... LOL

The DTS HD Master Audio track on T2 is awesome, and well worth the $5 in itself.

Yes, but unless you've got a CDS print and the means to play it back then you've only ever been hearing one remix or another in the home, and the 5.1EX is good enough for me. I'll let Van explain it:
Quote:
As for whether you like or dislike the remixes, it is entirely up to your interpretation... but it's pretty hard to say "they're not as good as the original release mix" unless you have an actual copy of the original mix in your possession to compare it with. If you are using the "original" video release as a guide, that's an altered mix already; the theatrical mixes were often remixed to account for stereo downconversion issues and other factors. If you are going by what you remember from hearing it in the theatre as a kid (or even in a current screening of an old print in a revival house), bear in mind that you are hearing a nondigital print, since neither Dolby Digital nor DTS existed when T2 came out, and there is NO available CDS capability anywhere as far as I know. And memory is notoriously unreliable and very subjective... so like whatever you like, but know that pretty much any released disc contains sound and picture that is ostensibly approved by the filmmaker... although whether they have reviewed and approved the final ENCODES for the specific disc release, or the final product, may still be in question. Hope this helps, V

Actually no, the first DVD release has the CDS track by all reports, and I have every AC-3 LD of this and the first is the original mix.
Also there is more than one "home" mix that Rydstrom has ruined in my view at least twice on T2, the fist SE version was remixed, and the EX/ES mix was new also

I rather have the DTS track. It goes perfectly with the action on screen.

Heh. I've got the original Live Entertainment R1 DVD right here, and guess what? It sounds just like the later mixes, give or take a bit of sound steerage in the rear channels. Funny that.

[edit] In fact, given how you maintain that the gun sounds are more meaty in the "original" mix, certain parts of the Live DVD mix place less emphasis on the gun sounds and more on the atmospherics, like when Sarah's firing up at the T-1000 in the lift during the escape from Pescadero. The report of the gun has far more bite and impact in the 5.1EX, whereas it's dialled down in favour of adding much more reverb to the rears in this "original" mix.
