There are better Blu-Ray releases of T2 out there, but I'd even go so far to say that I prefer the look of the Extreme edition DVD upscaled compared to the Skynet edition BD if I had the choice between the 2.

Are there any quality features on the Skynet edition which make it "keepable" once upgrading to the new release? From the review text, it appears that all the Skynet features are PIP, which I abhor. Is the same info covered in the new features?

The commentaries aren't on the new disc (or at least one of them isn't, I can't remember).

Sorry, guys, I should've been clearer. Don't care about commentaries, I've never listened to one (think I tried once and gave up after 5-10 minutes
![]() One thing really puzzled me : I usually default to extended versions, but when I watched the Special Edition of the re-coded release last night, there were a few scenes I'd swear I'd never seen before (Kyle's scene, for one, and did the guards at the asylum always club Sarah when they go in to tranq her?). It makes me wonder if all I'd ever watched before was the Theatrical. ![]() |

If you've never seen the Kyle Reese scene before then yeah, you've only been watching the theatrical (which is the best version IMHO anyway, but that's apparently a minority opinion).

The theatrical will always be my 'go to' version but the last time I saw the movie I chose the SE, and I'll be damned if I said I didn't enjoy it some. I'll always love that chip scene (as much for the filmmaking craft as anything) and it was nice to see Reese again (watching it straight after T1 helped in that regard, I think). Even the added humour, as daft as it is, helps to offset the increasingly po-faced tone that the movie takes.

I've got nothing against the SE, I like the added material quite a bit (most, if not all of it, is pretty damn good). But it comes back to that P-word: pacing. I like my action movies fast and brutal, character beats be damned. And it's not like the TC is totally bereft of those, anyway.

This is coming from someone who despises most serialized television as well, because it takes them 13 hours to tell the same story a movie would in 2. |

Some shows do it well though, obviously I love The Sopranos, The Wire, etc. It's just rare in my experience that a serialized show feels fresh and well-paced for 13 hours in a row. |

I'm really surprised that the site never reviewed the T2 2015 AVC release. ![]() ![]() |

I like most of the extra scenes in the SE but they do slow the movie down quite a bit. The pacing is much better in the theatrical cut. On another subject, I cannot wait to see this in 3-D at the cinemas! It's a shame 3-D never really took off the way it should have. It's not just a needless gimmick. It's a whole new immersive way of watching a movie. Prometheus in 3-D was amazing and Predator converted to 3-D was incredible as well. There's so many older movies I'd love to see converted into 3-D that will unfortunately most likely never happen. Hopefully James Cameron gives the 3-D treatment to more of his older movies. |

The two commentaries (which I guess will make a return on the 2017 BD) and several other BTS featurettes (all in SD) are there only on the Skynet disc, but then again, accessing them used to be quite the chore for me, coupled with the waxy video. So got a used copy of the Ultimate Edition DVD - with all the extras minus the commentaries - along with the 2015 "Van Ling Edition", and sold the Skynet edition Blu off.
