That's for certain. I'm curious whether the 203 has the same issues though. I just wish there was another BD player model as silent as the Oppo and with subtitle shift (and ideally multi-region capable).

203 here, it's only every Funi release, so I'm prepared with my finger on the gear button. Just have to figure out if it's speed up or slow down, depending on title and sometimes episode, or, like you said, chapter stops.
Oh, Funi.... (And it's only their discs, so I place the blame on them, as this doesn't happen with any other publisher. (So far.)) Last edited by Gouki; 03-08-2019 at 06:59 PM. Reason: Funi bashing |

I haven't seen it in the last 15 or so pages of the VQ thread but I received Please Teacher! today on BD. Anyone want screen shots?
I have the DVD somewhere but I am positive there is almost nothing they could have done to the HD version to make it not be better (I don't recall the DVD being BAD but if memory serves it was a composite source). I can do comparisons on Monday if someone wants that too. |

Here's 9 stills I pulled out of Please Teacher!
May go back and get some DVD shots but not sure I need to. This looks pretty good. 1080i. https://ibb.co/C6mGGT6 Last edited by slerch666; 03-09-2019 at 08:16 PM. |

Since my old Maison Ikkoku comparisons were deleted when screenshotcomparisons.com purged their database, I decided to create a few brand new ones using the final episode. I did my best to avoid spoilers and tagged the one I felt crossed the line.
Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 (spoiler) Shot 5 The amount of black crush in the Viz DVD is astounding for the fifth shot, and I made sure the frames were as close as possible. If Please Teacher was produced entirely at 24fps, it's not a question of being an upgrade or downgrade, just that Nozomi should've handled their release a little better. The licensor sent interlaced materials of which Nozomi in turn should've inverse telecine to make it progressive. Leaving it interlaced means unnecessary de-interlacing and pulldown judder.
I'm not dumping on Nozomi's release at all as it sounds like it was encoded well. They just could've done a bit more for it. |

I'm not saying it's great that it's 1080i when it should be 1080p24. That's some dumb shit, but the 1080i release can still be much better than the DVDs, as well as very, very cheap and haz subs. |

Making MKV of the DVD and BD now. Will do a comparison shot set.
Will run BDInfo, grab captures, and report on bit rate once it's all ready. For Please! I mean. |

I don't know which is why I asking. Looking at the Amazon JP and CDJ listing I don't see anything about video quality on them unfortunately and not sure where else to check for reliable information. Or sort of official and reliable info. Actually, we have the same video format as the Japanese release according to this: https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/472683.html And according to the main page for Please Twins, that was definitely 1080i: http://www.please10th-anniv.com/ ![]() Last edited by slerch666; 03-11-2019 at 12:54 PM. |

Here's the info and comparisons for Please Teacher.
According to AV Watch and Please! 10 Year Anniversary website, the JP BDs are 1080i. The US BD from Nozomi (Rightstuf) has kept this same format. Bitrate Viewer for the first video file: ![]() Screen Shot Comparison (not exactly composed as I had to crop the black bars from the BD image to 1440x1080, then resized to 1440x960 poorly. DVD exported at 1440x960 PNG bilinear scaling): http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/131919 Disc Info [Show spoiler]
