The trend right now is for convenience above all things. Most people don't care very much about the movie watching experience, so they aren't concerned about watching over compressed material on tiny screens, as long as they can take their tablets with them. Just remember, if you have to log in to watch it, or it depends on being connected to someone else's server, you don't own it, period.
Oh yeah and, PHYSICAL MEDIA!! WOOOOOO!!!! ![]() |

My wife only streams as well. She recently fell in love with Nurse Jackie so I bought her some blu rays of it, since they were so cheap. She asked me why on Earth I would ever buy a show like that and she keeps watching the streaming version because she doesn't care.
I don't think it's a women or young people thing though. It's a "don't care" thing, people who are less into home theater or certain shows than we are. They want convenience over all else and don't see the quality dip or care about the ownership issues. Hopefully there are enough enthusiasts to keep physical media going so the two can live together in the market. I think there are, at least for big stuff and genre shows. |

I've had a love for physical media since I was a kid riding my bike to the local Sam Goody to pick up the new Korn or Eminem albums and shaking on the way home because of how badass I thought I was.
Streaming gets better and better every year and I think it's amazing that a service like Netflix can offer huge HD libraries for such a low price so I understand why that is attractive to a lot of people. But for me.....man, NOTHING beats physical media. If it comes with a digital copy, that is the cherry on top. But picking up a physical package, admiring the artwork, and building a library is all part of the fun of the hobby for me. I am not a huge slipcover aficionado like some other members here, but every now and then I will pick up a new release and be blown away by the amount of attention to detail goes into some of these slips. Ditto for Steelbooks, Digibooks, collectible gift sets, etc. Stuff like that just can't be replicated with a digital copy of a film. |

OK... So we just had a major ice storm here yesterday, and a very large tree branch loaded down with ice snapped off the huge tree in my front yard and brought down the cable TV line to the house along with it, which carries both my internet and phone service. SO, what did we do all day without any internet service and thus no possibility of any streaming? We watched a couple pristine Blu-ray movies in my theater room, on a 120" projection screen... 'nuff said.

Furthermore, I find streamers hilarious in that they can get literally the same thing via a torrent.
If you're not paying for a plastic box and a physical disc, then you're effectively paying for air. |
