Not true. Just so you know, disc rot is not necessarily "it plays or it doesn't". My old Battlestar Galactica DVDs from ages ago were famous for disc rot thanks to Universal's dual-sided dual layer discs, and sure enough, half of my discs went bad within a few years. When they were new, they all played through fine. The next time I pulled them down to re-watch them 3-4 years later, half the discs froze during playback and couldn't play through. All the episodes started to play, but at some point, sometimes just a minute or two in, or sometimes half-way through, it would hit a rotted point and not be able to get past it.

i've had some blu's that i had the blu-ray on and the netflix version and toggled between them and they were damn near identical. i'd say blu is still better but i could only tell with my face damn near up to the screen. i'm still team physical media but for movies i liked like a 7/10 i have started buying the UV codes for those and buying the ones i really enjoyed on blu. space is getting limited. i have room for like 2 more blus ![]() i could make more though by getting rid of the DVDs i haven't upgraded to blu yet though |

and neither of those are netflix either.
my point is yes we know blu is best, but sometimes the way posters on here carry on you would think streaming services are VHS quality. sometimes it's hard to find a discernible difference unless you are getting your sherlock holmes on. do you think i care about the formatting of my posts after spending all day at work. what are you, my professor? |

I don't get it when people either want to have Blu-ray in its original case (often in a steelbook or with a slipcover) or they want to have it in digital form. Those aren't the only two options. What's wrong with just having a Blu-ray disc in an efficient case? Why is that worse than a digital version? Last edited by PenguinMaster; 07-29-2016 at 02:31 AM. |

Most of the people who prefer streaming also seem to forget that ISPs can and will throttle Internet speeds in the future as bandwidth becomes more and more of a premium. The Internet that you use is through a service provider, the digital content streamed is through another service provider. With this being the case, both of these service providers need to offer something worthwhile for continued access to your digital copies.
If bandwidth becomes a premium (It can and will happen, see how mobile data is no longer unlimited or pretty expensive despite advances in technology), that can affect access. Reading the T&Cs on your UV Codes will show that there is also the possibility of charges down the line (to access content already owned). Sony specifically states this on their UVs. At least with a blu ray you don't have any of those problems. As for the convenience argument, I for one don't get it as things can now be purchased online etc. It's not like an actual trip to a B&M store is required these days. |

![]() If anything, more and more telecom providers are offering unlimited data plans (even the small companies, it's no longer just the giants) and they're getting cheaper every year. Every year I have to keep calling my ISP to get bumped "down" to a lower-tier plan, because they keep increasing their plan speeds but lowering their prices (for unlimited bandwidth). In other words, I can get equal (or sometimes slightly faster) speeds for less money, with unlimited usage every year! This is news to me that unlimited bandwidth and mobile data is becoming less common. ![]() |

I've seen caps for some really recent stuff like the X-Files remaster where the blu blows away Netflix. I think it's more that Netflix looks really nice in motion, more than Netflix actually competing with BD in direct comparison. Also even with the best internet package from my provider I get occasional drops to SD and compression blocks in the blacks.

I meet and hang around with a lot of younger people in a karate club, and even the film fans among them, who I regularly discuss horror or the latest theatrical releases with, don't seem to have any interest in physical media whatsoever. It's either legal streaming or illegal torrents. |
