There's an unfortunate typo there, but that's okay, because here is the new, improved version of your last paragraph:

Not true. Just so you know, disc rot is not necessarily "it plays or it doesn't". My old Battlestar Galactica DVDs from ages ago were famous for disc rot thanks to Universal's dual-sided dual layer discs, and sure enough, half of my discs went bad within a few years. When they were new, they all played through fine. The next time I pulled them down to re-watch them 3-4 years later, half the discs froze during playback and couldn't play through. All the episodes started to play, but at some point, sometimes just a minute or two in, or sometimes half-way through, it would hit a rotted point and not be able to get past it.

That's great and all, but the poster he was responding to didn't say he had an issue with the disc freezing during playback. What he said he observed was "a glitch and some snow in the image on one episode that wasn't there before."

sometimes it seems like some of the dudes on here have never even looked at streaming with the comments they make.

i've had some blu's that i had the blu-ray on and the netflix version and toggled between them and they were damn near identical.

i'd say blu is still better but i could only tell with my face damn near up to the screen.

i'm still team physical media but for movies i liked like a 7/10 i have started buying the UV codes for those and buying the ones i really enjoyed on blu.

space is getting limited. i have room for like 2 more blus

i could make more though by getting rid of the DVDs i haven't upgraded to blu yet though

I'm assuming you keep all your Blu-rays in their original cases. You could easily save plenty of space if you get multi-disc cases or binders.

and neither of those are netflix either.

my point is yes we know blu is best, but sometimes the way posters on here carry on you would think streaming services are VHS quality. sometimes it's hard to find a discernible difference unless you are getting your sherlock holmes on.

do you think i care about the formatting of my posts after spending all day at work. what are you, my professor?

yea but that also kind of defeats the whole point IMO. I like having them on the shelf.

You previously mentioned only getting Blu-ray for the stuff you like the most. You could get Blu-ray for everything but only have your favorites on display and the rest in more efficient storage.

I don't get it when people either want to have Blu-ray in its original case (often in a steelbook or with a slipcover) or they want to have it in digital form. Those aren't the only two options. What's wrong with just having a Blu-ray disc in an efficient case? Why is that worse than a digital version?

Also, there's a world of difference between studying still-image comparisons and just sitting down and watching a movie. 1080p streams, especially on Netflix which I feel do it better than Amazon (never watched itunes) look pretty damn good. Considering we were all primarily watching DVD or worse on CRT televisions about 10 years ago, we've got things pretty great now when you think about it, and plenty of good options.

Most of the people who prefer streaming also seem to forget that ISPs can and will throttle Internet speeds in the future as bandwidth becomes more and more of a premium. The Internet that you use is through a service provider, the digital content streamed is through another service provider. With this being the case, both of these service providers need to offer something worthwhile for continued access to your digital copies.

If bandwidth becomes a premium (It can and will happen, see how mobile data is no longer unlimited or pretty expensive despite advances in technology), that can affect access.

Reading the T&Cs on your UV Codes will show that there is also the possibility of charges down the line (to access content already owned). Sony specifically states this on their UVs.

At least with a blu ray you don't have any of those problems. As for the convenience argument, I for one don't get it as things can now be purchased online etc. It's not like an actual trip to a B&M store is required these days.

You'd be surprised how close Netflix streaming can get to BD nowadays. Sure BD is still better, but it's not the giant difference it once was.

For audio I'd have DVD, especially with DTS, in frout of Netflix TBH.

What?

If anything, more and more telecom providers are offering unlimited data plans (even the small companies, it's no longer just the giants) and they're getting cheaper every year.

Every year I have to keep calling my ISP to get bumped "down" to a lower-tier plan, because they keep increasing their plan speeds but lowering their prices (for unlimited bandwidth). In other words, I can get equal (or sometimes slightly faster) speeds for less money, with unlimited usage every year!

This is news to me that unlimited bandwidth and mobile data is becoming less common.

I've seen caps for some really recent stuff like the X-Files remaster where the blu blows away Netflix. I think it's more that Netflix looks really nice in motion, more than Netflix actually competing with BD in direct comparison. Also even with the best internet package from my provider I get occasional drops to SD and compression blocks in the blacks.

That might be the case now but as more and more people stream and download, it is only a matter of time before ISPs find ways to charge you more and throttle bandwidth. I am not sure about Canada but mobile data is hardly unlimited in the UK. I was there for a period of time so I can attest to that fact.

Are us people who love physical media, when it comes to film, a dying breed?

I think so.

I meet and hang around with a lot of younger people in a karate club, and even the film fans among them, who I regularly discuss horror or the latest theatrical releases with, don't seem to have any interest in physical media whatsoever. It's either legal streaming or illegal torrents.
