I guess it depends on what HDTV he has by then. If he still has a 1080p display than there is no point buying a UHD player and discs because you won't see a difference in PQ compared to regular BD.

I was over at Potomac Yard Best Buy (Alexandria Virginia) late this afternoon, and their physical media section is the worst of the entire DMV area - the decline of CD's/DVD's/blurays is very evident here.

A few posts are missing, but I will say he got his money's worth once he decided to get ejected from the game. Figuratively lowering his pants and taking a dump on Home Plate before being removed from the field of play by the cops. Leo the Lip, Earl, and Billy would have applauded the dedication to make it memorable if not particularly sane

Probably best to move along since it has nothing to do with the original topic anyway Last edited by hariseldon; 08-06-2016 at 03:11 PM. |

One would think it is actually a lot easier to maintain some sort of control over the internet as you could essentially back out after having typed it (or even delete it within a second or two). However the anonymity over the internet seems to offer some sort of high for a handful to lash out at the rest as it is a lot easier than a face-to-face confrontation.
Nevertheless from his own admission of being over 50, one would have hoped that he had accumulated some experience and as a result turned out to be more wiser than us, younger folks, but sadly that wasn't the case. Quite illogical as Spock would say. ![]() |

Any point can be brought across in a proper manner without the need to insult another and as the sage advice goes " never do anything when angry as you might regret it later on " (probably paraphrased but the meaning gets across). Getting back to the topic, I can't wait for all the seasonal discounts that we will be seeing in the months to come. Hoarding a bit now so that I can splurge on some physical media. ![]() |

Variety reports today on a rather devastating study about digital purchasing. While disc sales are falling the market isn't really switching to buying movies digitally, or even renting them. Two-thirds of consumers have never once bought or even rented a streaming film, and the same amount never even bother activating their digital copies sold with discs. Consumers just do not care much about this market.
I assumed people were renting quite a bit and we were going back to a VHS style culture where most just rent and the hardcore buy. However according to this my college students reflect the entire consumer market, where if something isn't on peoples' streaming services they don't really watch it (or they pirate it). Scary future coming down the pipe, if you ask me. Luckily this report gives hope that a disc-based niche market has a lot of support (even if most aren't buying catalog material again after DVD). |

Less people buying discs, less people stream-renting... It seems Hollywood is safe when it comes to "theater going" (going to the movies on a Friday or Saturday night). Whether you're 17 going on a first date, or 40 taking an evening to relax, going to the movies probably won't change. Especially because the theaters are making it more of an experience (IMAX, Xplus, vibrating seats, 3D, large reclining seats, food delivered to your chair, better sound, 4D... etc) With the ease of being able to rent movies right from your home tv (not needing to run to the video store), I'm just surprised that it's not the other way around. |
