Yesterday someone gave me their UV code for Batman vs. Superman so that I could watch it for the first time.

Never been on Vudu before.

And I must admit, it was a pretty thrilling experience.

...is this how it starts?

What exactly made it more "thrilling" than watching a Blu-ray?

Having more movies to choose from than just the ones you own.

I popped in a new release the other day and there was an ad on the blu-ray to buy movies digitally instead. There's no doubt there is a push to make everything streaming only, but my internet isn't the greatest so having a physical copy really helps the overall experience instead of constant buffering. Even good connections can experience server issues on the provider side which means buffering and headaches. When we all have affordable wireless gigabit then maybe streaming would be the way to go. Until then I'll keep my blus.

Isn't VUDU a service where you buy each movie individually? So you don't have access to any movie until you purchase it.

Seriously. What a bizarre statement that was. Unless he's already bought literally every blu-ray but hasn't bought every thing on vudu??

Or unless he's referring to rentals, of course, which don't seem that exciting to me?

Rentals would still fall into the same category, they just aren't as expensive.

I assume he means the movie was a thrilling experience.

Come on, folks, even VHS movies were thrilling too, so let's not turn this into a big debate about Blu-ray vs. streaming quality.

His statement made it sound like watching it on Vudu was a thrilling experience and that could lead to buying more titles on Vudu.

Well, he'll have to clarify his statement, but that's not how I read it.

Although, it does sound like he might be more open to VUDU now. I'll admit I buy certain things there, but usually stuff that isn't on Blu or where streaming is "good enough" if the price is right (like the Comedy Central Roasts, for example). I did break my own rule by buying The Visit for $5 on VUDU a few weeks ago though (with credit, but still).

That is what makes it sound like Vudu itself was thrilling. Otherwise it isn't a statement about Vudu. I assume "thrilling" was hyperbole but being interested in watching more on Vudu says there was something good about the experience of watching on Vudu.

It's possible he meant the entire experience was thrilling:

- Free code. That's a thrill. I was over the moon when a friend of mine gave me a Deadpool code.

- Great movie (assuming he liked it). Another thrill.

- Ease and convenience of VUDU for someone who has never used it before. I suppose that can be thrilling in its own way.

I don't think you have to worry too much about Ray Jackson though. This is a man who regularly plunks down serious coin on Criterion Blu-rays.

Knowing Ray Jackson, it was some kind of weird joke that will be clarified by a bunch of animated gifs. Or he was just sarcastic, considering he watches tons of Criterion movies and BvS is the very opposite

Sarcasm, it's super easy to detect on the internet.

Just redeeming a code on Vudu for the first time and looking under my list of movies and seeing a film that I now possess in digital format was thrilling.

To be honest...it took my breath away.

Studios definitely want everyone to switch to streaming, they have more control and make more profit that way. It's not working though, Variety just reported on a study last week that very few are buying or even renting streaming movies. They are watching streams through subscription services, but streams are not replacing physical media for movie ownership (yet).

Do you even remember what it's like to feel something?

...to know that you're really alive?
