With the latter the argument can still be made do you actually own the title or it a permanent rental since once it;s in your acct the only thing you can do with it is watch it or delete it.

You are still purchasing something individually rather than renting a pile of movie/TV for a month like with Netflix/VuDU

My point is that someone doesn't walk into Best Buy and experience a thrill of having access to a thousand movies: they can't watch any of them until they pay for each one. Vudu is the same way.

Again, I don't know why streaming & renting/buying physical media can't go hand in hand. In my case, I do all three:

1) Buy Blu's/DVD's (only if I can get them for very good prices).

2) Rent Blu's/DVD's

3) Stream - typically TV shows, but sometimes films.

If people continue to stream most TV shows then less and less of them will get physical releases. This means many shows will stop being available at all when it isn't profitable to keep them on streaming services. The same thing has happened with broadcast TV. Many shows never got a physical release so now they aren't available at all.

With all the advantages of buying movies and television series from Vudu such as receiving access to new releases weeks earlier than the physical media. The other advantages are a selection that puts physical media to shame, convenience in accessing the titles, the freeing up of shelf space for UHD titles, also the movie itself begins playing immediately without the annoying trailers most disc want to shove down your throat. Personally the only physical media I'll purchase now are UHD releases since plain old Blu-ray discs have become obsolete and a waste of space as far as I'm concerned.

You want to know what the state of physical media is? The state of physical media is that Sony just announced the new PS4 that can stream 4K titles, but not play 4K discs (which Sony themselves would presumably want to sell if they thought they could). THAT'S the state of physical media...

The price of the new PS4 would skyrocket if it had the hardware to support UHD discs. Nobody would go for it. They could add the ability to stream 4k for free. That doesn't really reflect the market for physical media one way or the other. It was simply a smart business decision to not add hundreds more to the cost of the new PS4 to support a format that most people have no interest in currently.

Apparently the Xbox One S's UHD drive cost them an additional $16. I don't know why anyone thinks it would drive up the price dramatically for the PS4 Pro.

Clearly Sony wants to sell their newly announced stand-alone UHD player instead and they don't see the Xbox One S's UHD capabilities as a threat to either the PS4 or their stand-alone UHD player (which is foolish on their part).

I dont think the state of physical media is in any danger as far as films are concerned. It's the TV shows that are in trouble. TV on DVD is endangered, and TV on bluray is near extinct. But movies so far are thriving on physical. People will always want to watch movies over and over. TV shows, not so much.

That doesn't make sense when the comparable XBox One S model can play 4K UHD discs and is $50 CHEAPER
