That's because studios have successfully devalued their content by giving away too much for too little a price. If streaming was only movies from 2+ years ago for $10/mo and VOD new movies for $29.99/movie, people would eventually go back to physical media

I haven't been to BB in years until just recently. I took my PC to the Geek Squad. There was a very small section of new releases. Target's physical media section has also been getting smaller and smaller. It makes me sad, but that's time during what time does. CDs are still around even though streaming has caused sells to fall to all time lows. DVD/Blu-rays are not going anywhere anytime soon. Continue to collect your favorite films and TV shows on DVD/BD/4K whatever.

Kind of sad, but oh well. In the early days of UHD I did enjoy going there. And I have some fond memories of browsing their sales floor with my son when he was still a little guy. Our local Best Buy was pretty nice, but it's been steadily going downhill for a long time now. I went from ordering from them almost exclusively in 2017/2018 to not ordering anything from them at all over the last few years. And the last time I actually went inside the store it was like a wasteland compared to the glory days. Seemed like a decent place to buy a washing machine, but that's about it. Best Bye.

It was the same way when I had several Family Video stores near me that rented out new UHD BDs for $3.99 a night but closed down during the 2020 covid lockdowns. I actually miss those stores a lot more. |

I'd occasionally go in to hand pick a steelbook and that was nice. I'll miss having that option!
As for their online sales I'm pretty sure they were just drop shipping orders with Alliance Entertainment. Other vendors will have to pick up the slack. |

Even as they slashed their physical media section over the years, buying Blus was pretty much the only reason I continued to frequent Best Buy. No more.
![]() I still remember when there were like a dozen aisles all dedicated to Blu-rays in the late 2000s and it was fun browsing through them on every visit. |

Sad, but definitely not a surprise. I can remember browsing Best Buy aisles for hours in the early 00s, picking up tons of DVDs and games back then. Best Buy has been downsizing their retail locations and only focusing on large electronic appliances (refrigerators, washers and dryers, televisions, computers) for some time now.
I encourage everyone to buy physical media from the boutiques when you can, especially the sites that care a lot about physical media like Diabolikdvd, OrbitDVD, Grindhouse, Bullmoose, etc. I generally avoid Amazon when I can, but I understand not everyone has the ability to do that depending on location, etc. Even Amazon seems to be pushing their digital sales vs physical copies lately. |

To be fair, Alliance Entertainment has been BB's media distributor, just like other stores, Target, for example. Alliance is still continuing just no more of their physical media at BB stores. BB staff haven't even stocked physical media in a number of years, they've been using a third party do it.

exclusives moving elsewhere is fine by me... what concerns me is where?
Target is phasing out physical media in stores and Walmart is the worst with shipping. Walmart is also always delayed. For all their faults, almost all my pre-orders from Best Buy would arrive Sat or Mon before release day... with Amazon, Target and Walmart, 9 out of 10 are after release day. For regular releases, not a big deal but when it comes to limited steelbooks and the damage factor... its a big deal... |

Anyone worried about this has their head trapped in 2005. It is completely irrelevant to the niche market we're in now. Look instead to things like "are studios skipping disc releases for significant movies?" Or "are labels having a hard time acquiring significant releases?" The answer to both is an emphatic no.

It's a bummer because occasionally Best Buy has great sales that other retailers like Amazon price match. That's usually when I splurge on standard 4Ks.
