I have a question I hope someone can answer. I am considering getting a Sony 800 4K Player. I want to integrate a Darbee unit. I know the Darbee can’t pass 4K. Can I still hook it up directly to the player or would I connect it between the tv and my receiver? I want to make sure I can still pass the 4K with no issues but have it work on 1080p signals on the Sony 4K Player.

I did see somewhere else someone mention putting the Sony to Auto resolution so it will output 1080p on Blu-ray releases. But I’m still not sure where I would put the Darbee in the video chain or how to make sure it doesn’t conflict with 4K content.

If someone can help with my question then that’s a big help.

Because I’m a huge Darbee fan and want it for 1080p content and 3D. And I might be selling my Oppo with Darbee.

Mine was due to the region setting.
I switched from US to Europe and it worked again.

you are going to have to split* the hdmi signal coming out of the player one for darbee 1080p/3D only and one for 4k then you will have to assign 2 different hdmi ports on your receiver, one for 4k only and the other for darbee 1080p/3D.

*make sure you get a splitter/switch that can pass through 4k hdr 60.

Well not an issue per say but I’m sure many were hoping they’d make the DV auto instead of always on or off. Maybe they can’t or maybe they are working on it or maybe they think it’s fine the way it is. However every update that comes out that will probably be the first thing checked and hoped for.

That’s my guess. Mine has been perfect so far and overall much more stable than the X800. Maybe some are hoping for a fix from some freezing issues mentioned on here. Again big problem with the X800’s I’ve had and not a single freeze on this X700.

That is what I was hoping for and mine have been giving me problems. It will not connect wireless or wired. I just called Sony for warranty and they said they are going to exchange it but I first have to send them this one then they will send a new one. I will be selling it.

I had enough of this player and just bought the Panasonic UB820 from Best Buy it's my Birthday on the 20th and I get 10% off one item. It will be here on Thursday. Cant wait!

I thought you posted a solution for that. Turn off 24p for streamed content?

Nice!! I wish I had the extra money right now to get one myself, its a really nice looking player. However the X700 cost me very little thanks to a mishap on Best Buy's half during a warranty exchange from an X800 that I got during black friday pricing plus an additional friends employee discount. They gave me full price value back then I got the X700 on sale price so I actually got money back so in the end only about $50 was spent total.

The player has been great considering the sale price yet alone what it ended up costing me so I just can't bring myself to dish out $500 just to get the auto DV regardless how nice everything else about the Panny may be in comparison, but maybe one day.

Who knows maybe Sony will change the way DV works on the X700 or maybe even come out with another $300 price range DV player akin to an X800 successor. That would be easier to swallow. Good luck with the new player!! I'm sure it's gonna be great.

okay, this is getting confusing. I own a 2016 Samsung 8000 65" TV that supports HDR but not HDR 10 or dolby vision. I also have the original Samsung first generation 4k player which supports the same things.

What would be a good quality blu ray 4k player to buy next? I currently have an issue with my set-up having a Samsung 4k player as well as a Samsung regular blu ray player and the remotes wreak havoc by turning each player on and off since the remote works for both players.

For this reason, I do not want another Samsung 4k player. I want a Sony, LG, or Panasonic that will play current HDR 4k blu rays to their max potential.

Any suggestions would be most helpful!!!

Edit-- one more thing to ask as well and I feel dumb asking but.... I see a lot of reviews saying "only plays HDR 10", usually accompanied by "no dolby vision". My regular HDR 4k discs will play in HDR yes? I don't have to have an HDR 10 TV to use with these newer models right?

The Samsung 8000 series does support HDR10, just not Dolby Vision or HDR10+.

I would probably go with the very latest Panasonic 4k player that will support all flavors of HDR, though it is a bit more expensive than some of the other choices. It's not as cheaply built.

I would recommend an Oppo 203 in a heartbeat, but since they are no longer being made...
