via it's VUDU App trigger the Dolby Vision TV Screen badge when streaming DV movies?

Can some here confirms what they see happening.

X700 $149 is an awesome deal if it can send VUDU DV movies to the TV.

Dolby Vision has to be manually activated and deactivated on the X700. The VUDU DV work fine for me on a Sony TV, I can't vouch for LG though.

Remo. Thank you.

I have a Sony Z9D in our Living room. OLED in an office man cave room.

I read Sony x700 Forced DV makes everything Dolby Vision. Even 1080p source material.

I wonder if thats a simple DV or artificial DV.
Unlike DV disc that have DV MetaData acting on the HDR10 Base layer.

So I wonder if X700 Vudu App under forced DV is just a Simple DV, Artificial DV?

When it's left on with content that is not DV, it blows out the brightness and looks horrible.

HDR10 content looks fine, when DV mode is engaged. BDs are another kettle of fish altogether, and a blanket statement cannot be applied to them.

For Z9D, Do you have the brightness down to around “8” for SDR content?

For HDR10 and DV brightness should be max.

Which is why I am very hesitant on asking for this player (or any UHD player honestly at this point) for Christmas. I need a UHD player but I do not want to get stuck with a player that has issues freezing up on discs. That would totally ruin the whole experience for me.

I have the x800. Is the upgrade to the x700 for Dolby Vision really worth it?

do you have a tv that supports DV and you want to see the discs you have that support it in DV? if you answered yes, you answered your question.

If you have a DV display, then yes. However, you do lose build quality. There are players with better auto DV functionality, but the good ones cost more... like the new Panasonic.

If you want and can use Dolby Vision I would say it is. I wouldn’t really call it an upgrade though, more like a lateral move. You get Dolby Vision but give up build quality a bit, 5G WiFi, and DVD-A. Actual performance wise they are pretty identical otherwise. My X700 was a warranty exchange for an X800 that failed on me. I was a little thrown off at first but did it knowing I’d get DV. Don’t really miss the X800 anymore.

I know the X800 was same price last year as the X700 is this Black Friday so for those prices you could always keep both. One benefit since the X700 forces everytrhing in DV when turned on you could always play non DV discs in the X800 along with any DVD-A’s you may have. I know 2 players may not be practical but just a thought

Hmm. Thanks. My TV does support Dolby Vision. But it's more of a curiosity to me.

It's nice to have for everyone but how essential it is really depends on the TV.

Just noticed that my X700 is no longer allowing me to get Dolby Vision with VUDU. It worked in the past but I just did a firmware update and now all of my formerly DV titles are only doing HDR instead. DV works through Netflix though. X700 is feeding into my LG 65 E6 OLED. Anyone else not getting DV to work through VUDU on theirs?

This is one of the reasons why you should not use a Blu-ray player for streaming. Streaming is an afterthought in Blu-ray players and that includes 4k Blu-ray Players. You should look into a dedicated 4k streaming device such as a Nvidia Shield or a Roku Ultra (2018 model). Walmart has a Black Friday sale on the Roku Ultra for $48.

PCFan, you did not mention the Apple TV 4K, which is the best video streaming device according to many reviews. The two streaming devices you mentioned above you had before and you stated that you had issues with them. By the way the 2018 Roku Ultra is the same as last years model and it still has the same issues as last years model.

Sometimes firmware updates require you to do a factory reset and setup the device again after the update process.

Well I had a Roku Ultra (2018 model) and the only issue I had with it is that there would be terrible lip synching and stuttering throughout a TV show in Vudu with Frame Rate Matching turned on but once I turned Frame Rate Matching off I did not have those issues. I did return it because the Match Frame Rate feature was causing issues when turned on. I had the (2017 model) before and had audio chirping issues frequently with it but I did not have that audio chirping issue with the (2018 model), well at least as long as I had it before returning it to the store. Also Vudu sucks in the Apple TV 4k in my opinion and this person mentioned that he uses Vudu. Quite a few movies in my Vudu library stream in SD rather than HDX in my Apple TV 4k but in my TV's Vudu app those same movies stream in HDX. Also the Vudu app in the Apple TV does not feature an Autoplay feature for watching TV episodes. Personally I would not recommend an Apple TV 4k for a person who uses Vudu and does not use iTunes as their are other streaming devices that the Vudu app is done better in my opinion.

The Apple TV 4k and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K are the ONLY stand alone streaming devices that support Dolby Vision thus far. So even mentioning the the Roku or anything else in place of the X700 for streaming with DV is bad advice at best.
