In the mean time. Waiting with Patience is the In Thing

I waited a long long time for Sony x800 DV. Many, many of us did. Who does'nt Think x700 DV will require some Serious Waiting and Why Not? Maybe someone here on this Thread have some inside line on the x700. Please Share
This is about BD players not TVs.
LGs so called DV player has been out a year now and they promised DV firmware last Summer. It arrived for a day and got pulled and not 1 annoncement on why they removed it and when its coming.

Yes Sony has also had delays on TVs but that seems to be to do with the CPU inside the TV. Hopefully as the x700 was made for DV and must contain hardware for DV then they deliver the firmware this summer.
Of course they maybe also lying and we may not seen firmware until end of year or worse never in which case I will have no choice but to save up for oppo.

In this technological world we live in the 4K Blu-rays players are important to the displays that they are matched with. The Sony 700's main raison d'être is Dolby Vision through a firmware update sometimes in the future. A Dolby Vision TV to match with it would be best. ..Sony, LG, Vizio, TCL, ...

nice little article there Bob. makes me feel good to have one of the TV's on that list, the TCL-55P605 handled DV out of the box, 72 zones of FALD too. looks beautiful and got it for well under $600 including a 2 year warranty.

having said that, the LG's I see at BB displaying DV demo's look beautiful as well.

if and when the X700 gets DV, i'll likely get it for the bedroom where the TCL is. I am also hopeful that more brands will have released players that have DV capabilities by that time. right now, the consumer has little choice player wise for DV until that occurs.

currently, I get all my DV via UHD streaming via the TCL. can't wait to finally see it "full on" from a UHD player. which player that exist will get the DV upgrade first, LG, Philips, Sony? which player that will newly arrive later this year will get their DV firmware update first? it's a waiting game and so far, Oppo really is the only game to have the secret sauce.

Oppo 203 may have the DV Lead.

But when other or most DV Players comes with their DV FW... OPPO 203 may not necessarly have the Picture Quality Lead. Be they $150 DV Players or $1000 DV Players.

Actually TODAY_____ No One has the lead DV Capable/Ready Disc Player that will connect their DV to Sony's TV's version of DV TODAY. That physically works.

Oppo cannot be bothered by any other manufacturer when it comes to quality all across the board.
Their 4K players are simply superior. You get what you pay for.

The Sony X700 I wouldn't pay more than $119 for it, Dolby Vision or not.

Bob.
Across the Board. I guess for OPPO 203 Don't mean it the Player able to process VUDU-Atmos-DolbyVision then sending it to the AVR. Or have the best PQ of all the DV Players expected by this year end.

Or even sending Netflix, Amazon Video DV-Atmos to the AVR.

Bob.
I don't know if you Shop Various Stores____ But 4K UHD Disc Media Movies are receiving More and More Dwindling Shelf Space everyday. Frightening LOW Levels at Walmart, Target for Sure. Walmart looks like it may quit selling 4K UHD Disc before too long.

The Complete DV Disc Player of the Future better be able to Stream the Major Mass Public Favorites in DV Atmos

The official statement essentially confirms what a Sony contact told me last week. Namely that there is no way of fixing the issue inside Sony’s TVs; it’s going to depend on the makers of the external source devices to ‘unlock’ the new Sony TV Dolby Vision capabilities.

In other words, your Sony TV’s Dolby Vision support is in the hands of various third-party companies, all of whom will be working to their own time scales and some of whom, you can’t help but worry, may not even feel particularly bothered about taking the time to implement a Dolby Vision ‘profile’ that only Sony Dolby Vision TVs appear to need.

If a Brand Disc Player implements ANOTHER Dolby Vision ‘profile’______ would that be another License Fee for Dolby Corp?

Some Clear Plain English to help us Sony Folks wanting a Sony DV Disc Player Understand what to consider...

https://sonyreconsidered.com/sony-ad...v-7185bc306d4a

I gather the original x700 Summer DV FW only do low profile Dolby Vision. Because they were to work on LG and Visio DV TV's. Now the FW needs a Kaboddle Much More DV Codings and Testing with Various Brands DV TV's. No Less Sony DV TV's. Likely even more co-odinating/testing with Dolby Corp

I do visit audio/video stores, I've been doing that since I was a kid because it is fascinating to see and hear, two great human senses. The apps implementation in players and in TVs vary considerably. Some are simply not worth it and manufacturers don't even bother to improve them. You have to constantly buy the latest products if you want to keep up; it's the name of the game.

Of course if customers want apps in their 4K players they won't go with Oppo.
Their apps in their previous players (103-105) were working, and still working splendidly, but times are a changin'.

I looked @ all the 4K players, and I'm in shock to see the miniatures, the cheap light plastic build, the empty rear connections, the noisy transport, ...it just makes me feel . . . cheap.

I know what you're saying, and we all have different budgets. To me some of those players selling for $300 or so are not worth more than one third of that and even then.

Also, all of them don't offer the support to their products, and that makes me feel even more . . . cheap.

Oppo players are truly the best and worth paying more for.
The only thing I can't stand is the agressivity and snobbish attitudes from some of their fans. It makes me want to look @ other brands. Can you understand?

I live in Canada, so apps are very not important to me, because we get nothing.
In the USA it is more important, bigger country, and same in other parts of the world like in the UK; they Vudu and Hulu and Amazon ... stuff in ultra high Def with Atmos (DD+ core) stuff.

If we want a streamer, a music juke box, a movie server, we get one for our budget and features. For serious videophiles and audiophiles the Oppo 203 and 205 are the universal players with real charisma and longevity. They save money by not being slaved of inferior apps with no support and put it somewhere else where it adds real value. That, is well acknowledged by now. You need to be patient with everyone, with everything, ...live life, live your life without fear without abuse without prejudice without unforgiveness.

Very cheap what we see today in 4K Blu-ray players, and very cheap too to have Atmos exclusivity with 4K. HDR and Dolby Vision will take some time till it achieves what it wants to achieve for everyone. It's perfectly normal in this transition stage.

I wanted a new 3D 4K TV. ...Sony Z9D.
I wanted a solid 4K player. ...Oppo 205.
I wanted an elevated sound reproduction system. ...With the Trinity standing above.

Tomorrow I want 8K.
Tomorrow I want Auro-8D.
Tomorrow I want a new Blade Runner 2049 sequel in holographic images in my livingroom.

I would wait till the Sony 700 gets Dolby Vision and go on sale @ 50% off.

Bob. I got my Trigger Finger on a 65 inch LG G6 3D OLED. $3999. New. Factory sealed. No tax. No Shipping. Some Family will get my 55 inch Lg E6.

Im also thinking about OPPO 103D to feed in my 12inch LD Platters. Use 103D to Darby process the video. Use 103D zoom features. For Effect.

My Heart is for a Sony DV Player for the Sony TV.

Funny. I can get the G6 just like that. But Im thinking the wait for the Sony DV Player is going to be Long. Not my Fault.
But then again by then... it may cost under $100.

If Sony Z9F have 3D... Im In too. Sell anything AV just laying around the house. Thats Taking Up space.

Seriously?! Says the guy going into the Sony player threads and won't shut up about how cheap they are to him, and how Oppo is superior.

Give it a rest dude. We get it. You have an inordinate fascination with your own preferences. You're posting about Oppo players in every thread here with no regard for the thread topic or the conversation that is taking place.

Hey, I'm a contrarian. Lol, if Sony was that cheap I wouldn't have all the Sony players in my mansion, including the X800. @ least with the 800 I don't feel so cheap. Comparisons are good for the system expansion.

But you're right, I sound like a broken record.

The other one is just plain Rouge. Very Shallow Sad LifeStyle.

Yep. If anything brings a smell to Oppo its them 3 guys.
Makes me wanna go Panasonic UB820. Than OPPO 203. Who wants an OPPO 203 in the House if it brings Uglyness to mind

I was a bit too direct with the Sony X700. It's a cute player, and it has apps, not the Oppo. It is what it is.
And it supposed to get DV. I'm sure it will, Sony said so.

When it gets DV and on sale for around $100-150 ... its cachet will become more realistically attractive.
Right now they want to sell you a little player without it for $250. Nothing here.
The Oppo 203 back in December 2016 was no picnic. And for about six months after that it started to take better shape. ...A way of speech.

As for my mansion, yes it's a mansion, a beautiful mansion with pillars and a warp around deck facing the whales.
Too many windows though; it's a killer.
I love underwater swimming. Anyone else?
