My multi-region X800 has been immaculate since I bought it. No problems whatsoever, just a stunning image.

Those were my thoughts at the time, as well. My main interest in the X800 though, was 2.0 and 5.0 DSD/FLAC audio support via USB. Then the definitive answer for X800 Dolby Vision arose late last year. Otherwise, the X800 would now be sitting in my rack.

My concern though is that the DSD/FLAC audio support may be dropped for the X700. Has anyone heard anything of this?

I don't use Vudu, Sony and Vudu do not seem to support that. Amazon and Netflix work great, 24p out to my 940E.

I used the X800 for most of last year as my streamer (Netflix and Amazon UHD) until the ATV4K matured, and it worked fine for me. Was also a great disc spinner.

Not sure on those questions above about Vudu or streaming issues.

I also agree, we have the same two people, LOTR and E6Atmos shitting up every thread, and the mods wont do anything with them.

Yeah, but comparing the X800 to the X700, what does Flagship even mean? Heavier?

X700 has Amazon HDR, X800 does not, and X700 will get DV.

Once again, if you have an X800, no need to hurry, if you need one now, go ahead with the X700.
Some may find it Wise to wait for couple x700 Published Reviews to come out. Also We may find out why Sony said x800 is Flag Ship(unless you need analog audio outs)

I agree with LOTR. X700 has elements for it to really really drop in price in time. I think its geared to compete against the many new/old DV Players to come out selling at the MOST Attractive prices

Hey,

Has anyone managed to get Dolby Atmos from this player? My receiver sees the Atmos stream as Dolby True HD...

I was looking at Best Buy.com.
One can pick up a 4k HDR10 Disc Player with over 900 confirmed buyers reviews. Of which Practically 95% reviews are 5 stars. $89 ____For 5 stars Picture Quality.

Sinced OLD or New Moderate or Budget DV Players don't have the DV FW yet. And maybe not arrive till Aug 2018...
Why Not. A $89 player? HDR10 player for now.

When the DV FW's are out. And reviews show they work flawless. And say even work on the Dolby Troubled Sony DV TV's from a disc player_____ then pick up DV Player. By Aug 2018 can you imagine the Great Prices for DV Players. From all the price drops.

These are real considerations.

And by August there maybe or likely 10 DV Players choices.
The Sony x700 by then will have to price compete.

Heck. With the money saved. One can buy a large sized Backlit Universal Remote. And maybe some DV Movie discs.

But if you must buy today. Have a Happy Day.

Default Dolby Vision issues

Here’s something interesting. So I bought the X700 UHD BD player from Best Buy. Popped in Spiderman: Homecoming and Dolby Vision popped up in the corner of the LG OLED 2017 C7 meaning it was being broadcast in that. But not Dolby Atmos Anyway took out a disc and popped another disc (It) in with it. Went to HDR. Back to Spiderman and just displays HDR. But Dolby Atmos was being broadcast. So I figured I tweaked something to do that only every other component displays Dolby vision that supports it. For example my Apple TV 4k. So I just called Sony to trouble shoot it. Rep asks where did you buy this. Told him Best Buy. Says this product hasn’t even supposed to have been released yet! They haven’t even done troubleshooting in depth on it to create a how to fix guide. Guy is very perplexed how Best Buy got their hands on stock. I asked when is it supposed to be released he says Summer 2018. Hope I didn’t get my favorite store in trouble. Haha. Anyway I’ve seen the discussion here steer to the X800 and such. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they’ve found a work around? Thanks.

I thought the X700 wouldn't have the Dolby Vision firmware until not before April or late spring, how did you magically get one this early with Dolby Vision out of the box?

this ain't passing the smell test bud!

Seriously, I remember clearly seeing Dolby Vision in the upright corner. I also went to picture mode settings and Dolby Vision Mode was shown. OLED Light, Contrast and so on was auto-adjusted for that as well. Because I did moved OLED Light from 50 to 65 as I felt it was too dark at 50. Contrast and such was perfect. I forgot to add this was before the update. Perhaps from what you’ve said they removed it with the update? I’m not sure but I’m this making it up. So where did you read this? I’d be happy to think perhaps Sony took it down with the update only to put it back later this year. It’s still a better player than my orginal Samsung 8500. Thanks for the reply.

have you not been reading the thread you posted in? have you not googled UBP-X700 or kept up with anything CES 2018?

your not the only person in the world to have a X700, but, you are so far the only person to claim they got one with DV and somehow, Sony sent a firmware to magically erase the DV from your player. which you convienently forgot to mention in your initial post.

add to that, you just joined the forum today and have only 2 post, both in this thread, so i'll say it again,

Double check because the Sony 700 has no Dolby Vision implementation, yet.

I have reviewd the forum. And caught up with CES. However, I had not seen anything about this update. I doubt I’d have posted this morning if I did. My mistake. Oh and yes I just created an account. I had one years before but have long since forgtten it. I do appreciate you mentioning what you have but your tone with me is unnecessary. If you don’t believe me that’s fine but why bother to reply? I know what I’ve seen and am not trolling. Again thank you for bringing up what you did I will look into it. Thanks

Sounds highly unlikely but is there any chance another piece in his home theater is decoding DV and the x700 is just "passing the signal along"? Strange.

Thank You. During that time on Thursday from what I witnessed might have been the Dolby Atmos log quickly come up. I was rather excited to get my hands on it. I might not have paid attention. Also, with what the Sony rep said only adds to it. I do thank everyone who responded. It puts my mind to ease. Again thanks for mention it. My mistake then and didn’t mean to cause an uproar.

Sony actually said Summer 2018. That could be August 2018 which is still Summer.

But we have to consider Sonys DV History too:

Sony Z9D said DV Capable in year 2016. January 2018. Still can't accept DV from a DV Player. And the earliest maybe from OPPO 203 in a few months.

Sony X800 may have DV. Then late 2017 Sony said maybe not. May not have enough Horse Power in x800.

Sony at CES 2017 said DV Capable in Z9d, A1e, 930e, 940e.
That lots power in TV's famous X1 Chip.
Receint DV FW Crashed and caused lots problems. TV screen flashing. Can't feed DV from hdmi. Etc.
Still no DV Player can feed DV into these TVs.

Sony saids famous X1 chip in Z9d, 930e, 940e, A1e not powerful enough for full DV. So Sony now said DV Players must do most of the DV MetaData processing. Again. Oppo 203 can't send DV to Sony TV's for a period of time which could be months away.

Sony saids x700 will NOW need to do most of the DV MetaData proessing. Not at Sony TVs. If Sony Top of Lines TVs with X1 Chip can't Do it...

Can Chip in Sony x700 do it probably. The Summer 2018 date was from CES 2018. Since then Sony failed DV FW for Sony TV's with its Powerfull X1 Chip. Receint. Whats that will do to Summer 2018 timeline???

All this about Sony, and yet you're still defending LG who still haven't delivered the DV firmware. Why aren't you critical at them too?

We must all understand. LG have DV inPlace in WHAT... 8 TV Models for like 3 years now. And their TVs do the highest or Fullest DV Profile. In the TVs. LG's Chip processes the DV Metadata. Thats why OPPO 203 been able to read DV Disc for LG TV's for months.

Now!____ Every DV Disc Player must decide if they are to do the extra DV Processing to connect to Sony's minimumlist DV profile processing TV's.

Every Brand Disc Players choising to do such will have to shift their time line for their Final DV FW. To process low profile DV, High profile DV, or both.

In the mean time. Waiting with Patience is the In Thing

I waited a long long time for Sony x800 DV. Many, many of us did. Who does'nt Think x700 DV will require some Serious Waiting and Why Not? Maybe someone here on this Thread have some Inside Line on the x700. Please Share if you do.
