I’d like to think it was something I may be doing wrong as I went through multiple X800’s and now 1 X700 but these players sit by themselves on open shelf with no other heat source below, above or on either side. Every other blu-Ray player in my home is a Sony, multiple years old, all work flawlessly. Not sure why I’m having so much bad luck with their 4K players.

Got the OK from the wife to get a UB820 as an early Christmas gift to myself. I really don’t like spending that much more on a player but was really my only other option if I want DV. I just couldn’t bring myself to try another Sony only to possibly have the same exact issue a few months from now. Up until a week ago it’s been a fantastic little player especially for the money but every Sony 4K player I’ve had acts up after 6 months or so and I don’t get it.

I had a Samsung 4K player that worked flawlessly for well over a year and I sold it to a friend to get my first X800. He still uses it till this day without any issue. I know there are lots of owners out ther with Sony players with no issues but I’m not destined to be one of them. Still don’t think I needed a $500+ player which is the most disappointing part and I’ve always been a fan of Sony players.

It's still too damn bad that Oppo took the dirt nap. Their players... overall... were the best bang for the buck. Yes, I know there were no streaming (there are so many other choices now) apps, but you had universal disc support, easy region free mods for normal Blu's and DVD's, and great customer service and updates. They actually listened to customer complaints too.

I would have tried an Oppo but not with the current price gouging. I got my money back for the X700 and had some credit I been hanging onto so it didn’t sting too bad. Started looking into the UB820 and I’m sure it’s a fantastic player but when compared to the build of the Oppo seams a little lacking for around the same price(before the discontinuation). Luckily build wasn’t a main concern or I wouldn’t have opted for the X700 and really only need it for 4K and HD discs. I don’t do network, SACD, DVD-A, and have an Apple TV 4K for streaming.

I was a big Panasonic fan and still have 2 42” plasmas in other rooms and my 930E replaced a 58” Panny plasma. I had one of their original blu-Ray players too so I know they make quality stuff. I just hope I have better luck with this new player as I am still sure Sony makes quality stuff but just hasn’t worked out for me with their players.

Before I get to far derailing the thread I wish every other X700 owner well and I am still a Sony fan and look forward to future players they may release.

You gotta read the x700 and x800 threads on here dude. This was a common problem. You have to deprive these players with all forms of internet, connectivity, and low-power options. They seem to freeze up due to powering them with other connections. Turn off ALL the options you can find in its settings that have anything to do with connectivity. Once I did that, mine stopped freezing and becoming non-responsive.

I did turn off all that was recommended as I never used its streaming services and only really turned the wifi back on occasionally to check for service updates or if I read there was a system update. I knew many complained about these issues and there were also many others that claim to never have issues. No matter what I did it was as if they had a 4-6 month life span for me. Zero issues for a good while then slowly becomes unusable.

Sure enough as soon as I pony up for the UB820, owners here and on AVS start reporting issues. I know issues can and do happen with every piece of gear for somebody but I hope I luck out this go round. Seams none of these 4K players are without them.

So I went to watch a movie and realized my player wasn’t connected to the internet. I got a message for an update. What was the update for? I had the dv update when it first released.

Eyeing this up for BF as Best Buy will have it for $150. Doesn't seem like a huge difference between this and the X800 player outside of the 3D support?

The 700 actually have Dolby Vision. But the chassis is smaller, the drive is noisier. Also if you have a projector, Panasonic 820 is the bare minimum you should use.

Does the X800 have better quality audio than the X700 if you set the 4k Blu-ray players to PCM if you don't want to bitstream to a receiver or you have a soundbar that accepts an LPCM signal through HDMI but does not decode the HD audio formats?

There won’t be any sound difference. It doesn’t have an audio dac. It’s a pure digital transport.

You mentioned about several months ago you tried out several sound bars and you returned them all.

You don’t listen to anyone’s advice. You admitted that you have over 1200 iTunes movies. A lot of well known users keep on telling you that it’s too late for you to go back to physical media due to your huge iTunes collection.

You also admitted that you have a 42 inch 1080p tv and again many users here said to you that it’s a waste of money for you to buy a 4K Blu-ray player due to no difference in picture quality from a 4K source, a 1080p source and a streaming hd video source from normal viewing distances. The only way to notice a difference in picture quality from your tv is for you to sit about 1.5 feet away from the tv.

About a month ago you tried out the LG UBK80 4K Blu-ray player. You probably returned it. It seems to me and other users here that you’re getting more confused than ever with both physical media and digital media. It seems that now you are switching back and forth every few days instead of every other week.

There you go again blabbering about my past purchases and using it against me. A reply to my question is enough. I have a 40" 1080p TV, not a 42". I'm staying with digital because of my huge iTunes collection and yes I returned the UBK80. I just wondered why the X800 is more expensive than the X700 besides the better build quality of the X800. I don't switch between physical and digital every few days, you are wrong there. Well I got my answer and that's all I needed. What are you doing in the 4k Blu-ray and 4k Hardware section in this forum if you are against physical media?

Target.com have the Sony x700 for $149 on Black Friday.

The x700 have the VUDU App. Vudu have 4K UHD movies in Dolby Vision and Atmos.

If the X700 is HDMI connected to a LG DV OLED will the x700
via it's VUDU App trigger the Dolby Vision TV Screen badge when streaming DV movies?

Can some here confirms what they see happening.

X700 $149 is an awesome deal if it can send VUDU DV movies to the TV.
