Better internal guts last longer than el cheapo ones. The moving parts and optical drive can be weak links in bargain basement models.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

When we're talking $100 or even $200 compared to $500 and above, this isn't exactly a doom and gloom warning.

Morbid curiosity about DV compelled me to pick up the X700 a few weeks ago. For me it’s worth the $250 I paid for it. It’s quiet compared to the Xbox One S and the remote is on par with the Xbox media remote. For discs with DV the increase in PQ is noticeable.

I stopped collecting discs about a decade ago and only started watching 4k and Blu-ray in July when I bought a 900f

I’ve been watching more movies lately, and it’s great to see so many new and catalog titles in such clarity.

Apologies if somewhere in this thread this has been covered but does this player have any specific disc problems? Just got one and can't play the JUSTICE LEAGUE disc past the menu. No selected option moves it on. With the BLADE RUNNER 2049 disc you get the opening Warner's screen then..nothing. This is my first dip into $K and its not working out too well so far.

Have you updated your player's firmware, or did you put the discs in without first updating the unit?

I've had two X800s in a row have massive issues with Warner discs. Googling shows it to be a somewhat common issue. The X700 probably uses the same software.

I've had an X700 for a month now. No issues with Justice League or any other titles. Seems like you should exchange yours. As an aside, I chose this player for DV and I'm glad I did. I've watched several films now in both DV and HDR. In every case DV is clearly superior. It's just damned annoying to have to go into the players set up menu to switch DV off when you have a disc that isn't DV. Hopefully Sony will incorporate an auto detect feature in the next software update... but I'm not holding my breath.

Depends on the TV how much DV matters.

Good point ! The glass is half full or half empty ! The TV is either so good it can take real advantage of DV or it's so bad it needs DV to make up for its shortcomings with HDR... lol

For what it's worth, I'm running a Sony 75X900F

Cheers!

Is Blade Runner 2049 on a triple layered 4k Blu-ray disc?

I would rather get the new Panasonic as a backup to my Oppo, but the cost for what you get is still too high as it lacks the build quality and universal features of the Oppo.

I guess it's an okay price for the x700.

Well I must of jinxed myself cause my X700 crapped out on me in very similar fashion to the X800’s I had problems with. Started with a few freezes and gradually got worse to the point it would just lock up once turned on. I would have to unplug it multiple times just to get it to respond and get the disc back out.

I’d like to think it was something I may be doing wrong as I went through multiple X800’s and now 1 X700 but these players sit by themselves on open shelf with no other heat source below, above or on either side. Every other blu-Ray player in my home is a Sony, multiple years old, all work flawlessly. Not sure why I’m having so much bad luck with their 4K players.

Got the OK from the wife to get a UB820 as an early Christmas gift to myself. I really don’t like spending that much more on a player but was really my only other option if I want DV. I just couldn’t bring myself to try another Sony only to possibly have the same exact issue a few months from now. Up until a week ago it’s been a fantastic little player especially for the money but every Sony 4K player I’ve had acts up after 6 months or so and I don’t get it.

I had a Samsung 4K player that worked flawlessly for well over a year and I sold it to a friend to get my first X800. He still uses it till this day without any issue. I know there are lots of owners out ther with Sony players with no issues but I’m not destined to be one of them. Still don’t think I needed a $500+ player which is the most disappointing part and I’ve always been a fan of Sony players.
